My mileage/trip odometer only works in the cold months (around 40 deg F and colder). In other words it works in the winter (here in Oklahoma City) but not in the summer.
The problem started at about 150,000 miles. Checked voltages at alternator and looked at starter grounding all seamed Okay. This truck has had its starter replaced with OEM starter.
Thinking about haveing a Dodge friend hook his high dollar OBD 2 Snap-on machine up and see if any thing shows up.

All the components on the cluster pull form the comm bus. The components that light up like gears and odometer are led's on the printed board, if they don't light replace the cluster. Lost all those and more so replaced the cluster and all is good.

Have you run the cluster test and looked at the codes? Hold down the trip reset button and turn the key on, that will initiate the cluster self test and display codes in the odometer window.

On an 04 it may be the solder joints on the connectors. Google Dodge or Ram cluster or tachometer repair and you will find plenty of info to re-solder the connections. Did it not long ago on the neighbors 06 that the tach was dropping out all the time. Easy fix if you have the correct small soldering gun (for electronics) and good quality solder. Don't overheat the connections.

My odometer (miles on the truck and trip miles) finally came on and stays on when my "light out" CAME ON on the instrument panel.

With the light out on
(had a rear brake light out on the passenger side) the mileage and trip started to register. Has anyone had this happen? HOW TO FIX?? DEALER IS STILL UNABLE TO SUGGEST A FIX. Have about 205,000 miles to date. Going to change the bad brake light and see if the mileage and trip mileage still work. If not I might remove the rear backup bulb and see if the mileage and trip miles still are indicating...................... This has been aproblem for over two years...............

Replace the cluster or have it repaired. The board that controls that display is bad somewhere, maybe a repair place can find it, maybe not. If the odo does not display then you cannot see cluster codes which you probably have.
