Matt, I guess I've been holding out, this is going on the 3rd year for my truck with a single battery. I installed a Exide Orbital jellpack battery with plans to install another, or both on the frame. Didn't get it done before winter and since I've made it through two Arkansas winters and Colorado Rockies hunting camps with temps into the teens, I doubt I will.

The specs on the Exide are 1000 cold cranking amps at 32 and 770 at 0.

I don't know if this setup would work for everyone as my truck starts on the first revolution if I give it a bit of fuel and I do plug in if it's going to be in the 20s.

I mounted a small dc air compressor in the passanger side battery box as part of my on-board air system.

Thanks for the input, RJR. The Exide Orbital models are another attractive alternative to traditional flooded lead-acid batteries.

Here's a webpage (mentioned above in this thread) with a TON of information about SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) batteries: http://www.stealth316.com/2-dynabatt.htm

I also found out that there are two 'Batteries Plus' retail outlets in my area. I called the one in West Madison and they quoted me a price of $255. 99 for the Odyssey PC1700 and $295. 99 for the PC 2150. Ouch!

Well, I went out on Friday night and picked up an Odyssey PC1700MJT. Batteries Plus in West Madison had one in stock... I got it for $239. 95 (+tax). They agreed to match Weaver Auto Parts' price...

I spent quite a bit of time thinking/contemplating/etc... but it's in the truck and seems to be a darn good battery. I was able to fit in in the OEM driver's side battery box - with some gentle coaxing with a hacksaw. I only had to hack the plastic battery box and the OEM bolts. I was even able to reuse the OEM hold down bracket... by cutting up some 1/8" thick 1-1/2" wide aluminum stock. It isn't the most robust solution... but it's sturdy, cheap, and would pass tech inspection. :-laf

The only big stumbling block was that I had to relocate the driver's side ground cable. I have an oil leak on my engine and where I relocated it was covered in oil. Instead of cleaning the area off like a good mechanic would do - I just bolted the cable on. Well, that wasn't a good enough ground... needless to say. With a good ground... that single Odyssey battery seems to be cranking the engine over better than my (possibly worn and low on electrolyte... ) 2-year old 675CCA Interstate traditional flooded lead-acid batteries.

I'll get some pictures soon, I hope.

Has anyone put a 2150 in the stock battery box (with modifications, of course)?

Found it for a 2nd gen (willyslover) here.

Yes,

had installed two of them on my 2gen with little modifications to the oem tray and battery hold down bolts :D :D

David :D :D

I have it on the driver side . . just have to cut down the front [radiator] side of the hold tray. . still plenty of strength without it and there is a good brace under the factory box.

also have to redo the cables as the 2150 uses stud/lug system

the best price I found was at Mr. Bob's Distributing in Frazier park Ca... ph 661-245-0319... I paid $279 and he is a damnnn nice guy to deal with, also a member here and CTD owner. . he has many other good things at reasonable prices. .

I'm in no way comparing the two batteries because I myself believe the Odyssey's to be superior, but...

I just put two Optima D31A yellow-tops in my 2002 and they fit and perform great! Basically just longer hold-down bolts are needed. I also found a great price on them at www.batteries.com. 900CCA and 155RC a piece. Depending on how much you end up paying for the 2150s the D31A's can be almost $100 cheaper a piece. Couple that with far more points of service should anything go wrong and that is what made my decision.

Just throwing in my 2 cents. If I had gone with the 2150 it would have been to go to one battery. For me it just would have been for the heck of it.

I wanna see some pics of TWO 2150s in an engine compartment:) It should just be beautiful:)

Congrats to all the people that purchased the Odysseys, they seem like great batteries!
