Well i did it! OZY, I used a ratchet strap to get some pull on the tail pipe & loosend the rear clamp on the CAT....didnt get too rough,,,didnt move, so i grooved the pipe w/ the grinder & off it came! its rusted anyway. [i decided to keep CAT] 4'' pipe, 4'' flo-pro muf., 4'' tailpipe,[all 409 SS] TEST DRIVE! not real loud, more throaty sound [nice!] i havnt been on highway yet, midrange drone might be a prob. as its loudest , at idle truck sounds almost as stock. ONE MORE TO/DO TO SCRATCH OFF MY LIST!! SAY NO TO RUSTY TAILPIPES!! MATTHEW

Short trips are killers to the OEM tail pipe. I routinely have to make short 4 mile round trip errands.
So the replacement system is all stainless except for the 44" Donaldson.

I had the same issue on my 06, fixed muffler once with a toggle bolt and washers and 5 minute gasket material. Then the pipe areas in the rear and by the muffler rusted through.

If you can find a shop to do the muffler installed for 160. Good deal, best price on OEM muffler and tailpipe was 360 from Napa. Make sure that the shop uses a muffler that flows enough for a diesel.

I went with the aluminized steel turbo back MBRP system, no regrets, picked up 18 HP and .5 mile per gallon.. Had the Stainless tip with it. 428 bucks shipped to the door...

Good Luck,

Luke

The pre-cat exhaust system on my '03 is all original and in good shape.

You have an '03 with a cat? I've never heard of that.

The exhaust system on my '03 is also in great shape. Even the part number label on the tailpipe section is visible and still intact. There is no catalytic converter in the system; however, there is an added section in the pipe with clamps just ahead of the muffler where a catalytic converter could be installed on (CA?) trucks.

That added section is most likely because you have a QC. For reg cabs it isn't needed.
