Someone correct my if I'm wrong, but Piers' 17 and 19 cm housings on the 55 requires a bit of work (hybrid). It isn't a stock option.

The smallest 'stock' 55 housing I've found is a 22 cm.

A local turbo shop built a custom 55 for a friend and installed a 17 cm housing but it required a custom heat shield to adapt the housing and a few other machinist tricks.

It wasn't just a custom housing that would bolt on.

Hope that helps.

I believe those 17cm housings were Schwitzer and custom machined to fit the HX50 cartridge. I think the advantage there was the Schwitzer housing was a direct bolt-on, no adapter plate needed to fit the manifold.

Piers Custom builds the 15. 8 and 17 housing and then welds a back extrention on that allow it to bolt right up and run a HX-40 4" down pipe. It is truly a bolt on replacement for a HX-40.

THe PDR HX-50/55 hybred is a great turbo!!!!!

Dee,

Not trying to start somthing here but I had talked to Piers about this turbo for a customer of mine and Piers said that it was a 50 not a 55. It has 50 wheels in it but with a different exhaust housing to bolt up to a b series. Where did the 50/55 come from?

The HX-50 and HX-55 share the same cartridge(center section). The turbo I have was a HX-55 to begin life. You are right most of them are 50s. Steve(HebeRam) and I compared ours and we could see no differance.
