Where do you all buy yours from? I priced it once about a year ago from the Dodge dealer in Casper for about $21/qt. Does that sound right? That puts me at $160 for a change. (Counting on about 8 qts... ... that is stemming from my own experience and from Blumenthal's suggestion. )

The original stuff was made by Pennzoil, but they stopped making it somewhere around 2003 or 2004. Now you are looking for an acceptable substitute. I have used Redline MTF and it seems to be working ok.

I use Amsoil with great results as well. To have it delivered to you it $12-15 qt. I know that's still high, but, we are talking synthetic either way we go.

Last time I looked Pennzoil Synchomesh Gear Oil was still sold in Autozone stores. Same spec as MOPAR and it was less than $10/qt. The last time I bought any was not long before I bought an '06 w/48RE so I'm not sure it is still sold but I would be surprised if Pennzoil quit making it. There are still tens of thousands of trucks in use that use that product and MOPAR still sells it. MOPAR doesn't refine and bottle it.

I use Pennzoil Syncromesh Manual Transmission Fluid.

It carries the Chrysler spec. MS9224, part # 4874464 on the back. I buy it by the case from a local oil distributor, never had a problem getting any yet. I think the Pennzoil # is 3501.

pennz syncromesh can be had at Auto Zone for $6 bucks a bottle... its whats required in Geo metro manual gear boxes as well..... lots people ripping people off all over at stores and the net for the stuff, seen it clear up to 20 bucks a bottle.

the consensus is. . and beleive me its been debated to death on the metro forums even by oil experts is ... . you run the Penzz or the Amsoil for the proper protection..... anything else does not work in the long run. if your bored hit a metro forum have a few spare hours and do search kinda interesting to read at least once, a very technical read, lol.

This is/was used in many GM vehicles, the 89 Grand Am I used to have used the same stuff, BUT I have just be getting it from the local DC dealer.

Quaker State has the same thing... I'm told Pennzoil and Quaker State are the one and the same. These last about 30K miles before shifting starts to get harder. I have Amsoil in everything else in my '02.

I just bought 5 bottles at autozone last weekend. Its meets requirements Tremec has for their TKO series of transmissions. I think I paid just under 10 a quart.

I have put 305k on my 5600 running Amsoil MTF at 100k drain intervals with no problems or hard shifting. I pay the dealer price of $8. 30+ shipping. My local Carquest stocks the Mopar stuff. I bought some of that recently for a customer and paid a little over $12/qt. jobber price.

I used Pennz Synchromesh the last time and wasn't thrilled. The factory stuff hadn't been changed up until then and with the exception of the toasted synchros, the shifting was still great. I did not like the Pennz. but had no negatives about it, just didn't like it as well as the OEM 7 year old, 110k miles stuff.

Did you like the Amsoil as well as the OEM stuff? It surprises me that the OEM is more $$ than the Amsoil..... Too bad I can't buy it somewhere else.

I'm not sure if you are talking to me or not but I ran the OE stuff for only a short time at one point. I really didn't notice a difference but it was a very short time so I'm not a good one to ask.

Where did you buy the Amsoil fluid? What should I expect to pay for it/per quart?

Thanks.

Ilian

I buy my Amsoil online through the Amsoil site. I have a preferred membership so I get dealer cost on everything. This cost $20/year, which was worth it to me when I was driving OTR but now that the truck is parked most of the time maybe not so much but I do also get oil for a few relatives so I suppose its probably still worth it.
