Friend with a new snowplow just gave me his OEM towhooks.

I suspect the plow installers left something out, as all I now have is the two hooks.

As you probably know, they don't match up to existing holes and thus must go to some kind of mounting plate??

Anyone know what that plate is or even a number??

Thx

One of the best buys on hooks is from a GM dealer. They have a heady tow hook package (two hooks, bolts, plates) for about 25 bucks! They are the ones that come on the 90's style. You would have to do some fabbin', but they are worth it.

I'd recommend factory/mopar hooks. In my opinion there's none better. I've put them to the test and have never had any problems. They're spendy but well worth it if you ever need them. The problem with a 2 bolt hook is bending the frame. With the mopar hooks there's a plate that attatches first... see hemi's pic.

David, the Mopar tow hooks bolt to weldment assemblies (included in the Mopar tow hook kit) which in turn are bolted to the frame cross member. If I remember correctly, at least one hole per mounting bracket had to be drilled into the cross member upon installation.

Unfortunately, without the tow hook mounting brackets you are going to have to fabricate something yourself if you really want to mount them. The mounting brackets and hardware are what comprise the bulk of the $139. Dodge charges for them.

I didn't have to drill any holes on the '01. The Mopar tow hooks utilizing the cross bracing are what make them so superior to the after-market brands. I would think that the after-market hooks could actually stress the frame if too much of a load was exerted on them.

I had heard that later Rams than mine ('98. 5) already had all the mounting holes required in the frame/cross member however, I wanted to give a heads up to anyone contemplating this installation. Additionally, I didn't know when the applicable holes were added (i. e. , model year or?).

I have a set on my old (96) truck, they bolted right up in about an hour. All the necessary holes are there, you just need to be careful to realign the bumper - you loosen it to mount the hooks.

I liked them so much I included them in the deal on my new truck (I'll do the installation when they arrive).

As for strength, I pulled a 12 wheel dump truck buried up to his pumpkins out of my back yard with one of my front hooks connected to one of his with 50 feet of tow rope. His hook bent. Mine didn't.

tow hooks and air dam

Where is the cheapest place to purchase the factory tow hooks and air dam. For some reason my truck did not come with the air dam. My local dealer wants 85 for the dam and 139 for hook package. If there is any good info out there could you please it on thanks..... Dwayne:) :D

Try Mopar4less.com and tell them it is an internet order. I've had great success from these guys, but the prices you quoted didn't seem to be too far off.
