Oil Analysis in Canada

national project to collect fuel taxes

This document may shed a little light on the current status of off-highway diesel fuel and what the gov't views as a national project to collect lost revenue.

Wisconsin research paper on off-highway diesel

I thought the penalty in MN was higher. I hear it is really high in WA for 'coming up red' on a fuel tank check.

I wonder if you could dye it lets say blue... or something to offset it... if it was another "pretty" color other than red I wonder what they would say? :) Just say it's fuel additive. I for one don't even know where to get offroad diesel around here... just participating out of curiousity...

I think they can tell if youre trying the skew the test. It's a specific color red, and they have the equipment to tell if it's ATF, Marvel mystery oil, or the non taxed red. (they wouldnt believe you anyway if you told them MMO or ATF anyway)

I believe I've heard that blue diesel is non taxed also, but I forget what it's "designated use" was. Maybe I'm wrong.

I put some used engine oil in my HOME HEATING OIL (that's where you get non taxed diesel) and it looks like regular ol diesel.

Of course I'd NEVER run it in my CTD. :-laf :-laf

I went thru a license check last year outside of Dothan, AL and was pulled to the side to check for off road fuel. The officer stuck a long white rod in the tank and pulled it out. Took a quick look and told me to have a good day! I too have thought about running an aux. tank in the bed and only running off road in it. The stock tank would be 1/4 full of regular diesel!

I've been stopped twice and checked,

Just about any truck stop can sell you non taxed fuel that isn't dyed, it's what they use in refers, you'll most likely need a transfer tank and just tell em it's for a generator or tractor at home.
