OKAY Mopar fans.....2008 Dodge Challenger!

i know this is off topic but i thought i would post here and find some help. i just bought a class 8 with a cat 3406C engine. i am looking for someone in the NC area to performance tune this truck. i was hoping that someone could recommend a shop or person. thanks in advance for all your help, johnny

I would think that the best place to take it is a CAT dealer. Most of them have dyno's and they have plenty of expereince with that engine. I used to have a couple trucks with 3116's, not CAT's best effort. They spent time at the dealers and one that needed injectors was uprated by them as part of the repair.

very true, they have the tools and the knowledge, on the 3400 series cat motors, you can shim up the lift pump relief, then mess with the afc or turn up the rack setting, which is dangerous if you have never done one, on the cat they get into micro fische, which you need cat tooling..... , easier and more reliabe to take it to a cat dealer ;)

i have a 3406c cat that has been messed with. i have retimed the fuel pump, adjusted afc and turned both fuel screws out alot. :D it also has a bell turbo that is wastgated at 40lbs of boost! i think the primary fuel psi is 40 to 50lbs. what do you sugest for a shim thickness on the lift pump

Give each fuel screw 1. 5 turns out, take the afc plunger out, set the timeing with a 1/4" allen wrench instead of a 3/8 bolt, take the rpm screw out. Then you will be ready to go ''SOUPERTRUCKIN''. Idont thing there will be a J. B. HUNT driver anywhere that could pass ya :-laf

Is it a 3ZJ or a 8PN serial perfix. The 8PN's had a two piece piston with a steel crown that can take alittle more abuse.

Does the engine have a wastegated turbo? Normally dont back out the fuel screws no more than a couple turns unless the barrells and pumps are worn excessive. After turning the rack travel up the high idle rpms will have to be setup to compensate for the adjustment.

The flyweights in the timing advance should also be checked also for wear and to insure the unit is operational.

I have been a Caterpillar P. A. R certified tech. for several years. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I bet CAT had gotten a few of those pesky Duramax injectors... :D

JDARK, it isn't a 4ck with the PEEC system is it? If it is, don't even bother messing with it. Save yourself alot of trouble and take it to a Cat dealer; tell them to remove the electronics and replace the pump with a 425 4mg spec pump.
