I don't know of any specific forums. You can find dump drivers on any of the trucking forums including this one. Just what is it your looking to find out?

Don't know of any forums out their either, but am also sure their are a few people here that may be able to help out.

I do know a little about one ton dumps. Not sure if your looking that small or something bigger.

dump truck information

I am looking to purchase a dump truck. I would like to know what are the good engines, for instance I understand that the international dt466 is a very good engine. What others?

Over all what are some good dump truck models, and what stuff to stay away from. Just general information.

I have a cdl a and would like to get a truck that will haul the max, so for single axle I have seen 38k.

I would like information on drop axles, benifits, how much do they add to the carrying capicity of the truck.

Fuel mileage, I have talked with several drivers and none new or could even guess as to mileage of thier trucks. with fuel over 2 bucks a gallon its an operating expense i need to consider.

insurance, I have called around and have some numbers, but maybe there are certain thing that can be done to reduce the cost. I remember I was looking at a road tractor with a 5th, cost of insurance was 12k, some one told me take the 5th off and put on a pintle, checked insurance, dropped to 1200. go figure?

I can afford about 8k so looking at models back from the mid 80's

Thanks

In PA, 38k for a single is the max but you are limited to 20k max on the front axle and 22. 4k on the rear. A lift axle on a single essentially makes it a tandem truck. PA allows 58. 4k max. Again the limit is 20k front axle. On an interstate highway, the rear axles are limited to 18k but on state or secondary roads, you can go to 21. 4 per axle. This is assuming your truck GVWR and GAWR are sufficient. I believe this is pretty much in line with the Fed's guidelines.

I think a DT466 is a bit small for a 38k dump especially if you have hills. There are lots of variables but a larger engine can give you better mileage when it does not have to work so hard.

A well maintained road tractor can make an excellent dump but look for one with sufficient springs.

Can you give some some engine model numbers that are proven. I here CATs have head gasket problems, about the only engines I have heard good things about are Internationals and cummings. How about the ford 240 or 7. 8?

People tell me the detroit diesel 8. 2 is ok but sluggish.
