After I unhooked my MAP sensor, for reasons I would rather not disclose at this time, I got busy doing a few other "things" that needed attending. After I got done with the other "things", I forgot to re-hook the MAP sensor and I started the truck and backed it out of the garage. While backing out I noticed the check engine light was on and I realized that I forgot to hook it back up. I got out and hooked it back up with the engine off, I re-stared the truck, but now the engine light stays on. I unhooked both batteries to see if that would help. I'll know if it did tonight when I go into work. If it doesnt, does anybody have any ideas? Everything else seems to be fine.

It should clear out the code make shure the plug is on there good.

Its not a bad idea to use dielectric grease also.

Maybe you need to leave those batteries unhooked longer. If that don't work I would think the dealer would hook there puter up and reset it for you. Down here they do things like that for free. If one wants to charge you for it bend over and show him where the sun don't shine:eek: and go to another one.

I havent hooked the batteries back up yet, and I wont until I go into work tonight in about 7 hrs, so I wont know til then. It has to go back to the dealer for another new passenger side battery anyways. I just dont want to draw any unwanted suspicion, yet.

I am ALMOST my own warranty station. ;)

I’ve set the MIL light on our truck a number of times. The book says that after the trouble has cleared (like re-connecting the MAP sensor) it will take two trips before the MIL indicator lamp will go out. The code will still be set however. The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) will light only when the ECM or PCM sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) that affects vehicle emissions. The books say “…the ECM or PCM may reset (turn off) the MIL if a previous malfunction (DTC) has not been re-detected after 2 consecutive “trips” have occurred. ” Also, the DTC’s are cleared, depending on the type, either after 1 or 2 good “trips” or 40 warm-up cycles.

In other words, I ignore the lamp unless it stays lit after several “trips” about town. Hope that helps.

P. s. You can view the DTC’s by quickly turning the ignition off/on 3 times and view the codes in the odometer window.
