I really hate holiday weekends! I'm out driving in the truck and have to deal with all the idiots towing their toy haulers. Yesterday was no exception. took 11 hours of driving time to go 325miles :{ Cut off by these 4 wheelers towing trailers. Its like they don't even know they have the damn trailer behind them. Fridays really make me rethink my current job.
But there was one BIG highlight to my friday night. About an hour and a half from home, I was heading north on hwy 395 from the I-15 (in Victorville CA) and had been trading places with this Chevy diesel towing(what else) a toy hauler. We came to rest at the last stop light at the north end of Adelanto. I could hear him loading up his Banks Equipped Duramax(with that badass Allison auto transmission
). Boost was building and he started creeping forward. I though to myself, I'm not gonna go down without a fight. HELL NO!! I put the truck in 2nd gear and waited for the green. Meanwhile the Chevy was now half over the crosswalk line, still boosting. The light went green Oo. He got the jump on me, But that stopped by the time his 5" tailpipe was at my door. After I hit 5th gear, I started to reel him back in. I could hear his truck reving hard. His transmission would upshift just a tad to early then down shift again for a couple secondsbefore upshifting again. By 50mph I was nose to nose to him. At 55mph I was pulling away. No way in hell I was stopping at 55. I pushed it to 65. At that point I was fully ahead of him and the 3 cars that were behind me started to pass. I reached the lane merge with him dropping back like a rock in a pond. Now I must admit, my words at this point were not very polite, but went something along the lines of don't mess with a Cummins or a man's paycheck. Not that he could have heard me at all but it made me feel better. He did however try to make a comeback 8 miles south of Kramer Junction in the uphill passing zone. Well, again that Duramax just didn't have the power to overcome the hill/Cummins. At that point, the evil laughter couldn't be stopped :-laf Now I don't know what was in his toy hauler or the back of his truck under that shell, but those Banks badges and huge Banks Power sticker on the shell window should have added at least 100hp and 200lbft, yet it still wasn't a match for a 12,000lb Freightliner FL-112, 6500lb 25' trailer, and 9500lbs of clay targets. My 28,000lb Cummins powered(400hp/1450tq&10spd)land rocket just dominated the Duramax/Allison POS!! I really would have loved to see the reaction on his face when I pulled him. That one experience just about made up for the bad day I had on Friday.
I reality, I never did think I was going to take him. I just wanted to make him fight for the place. But in the end, the Cummins sure showed its power
