Allison transmission

Thanks diesel power products !

I don't think we need any kind of lube oil additive whatsoever for the engine. There are documented "million mile" trucks that saw nothing but regular service intervals and simple non-synthetic oil like Rotella T or Delo 400.

I've got a bypass oil filter on my truck, but that's just to extend drain intervals. It's tough to say if it will have any significant impact on engine life.

I now have 532,000kms on mine (321,000k) only used Rotella 15/40 since new . uses no oil between changes every 6000K. Fleetguard filters always. Dont think you need addatives in these engines with regular oil and filter changes.

Most aftermarket oil additives today use some type of Chlorinated paraffins.

Before using aftermarket oil additives in internal combustion engines, consider the following.

First,is the questionable need for any supplemental product, as currently marketed

engine oils are formulated to meet all engine manufactures' requirements.

Modern engine oils are highly specialized products that have undergone a considerable amount of laboratory, engine dynamometer, and vehicle fleet testing before being marketed. Introducing a new additive ingredient into this carefully balanced additive package and base oil combination can only compromise and very possibly diminish the proven performance qualities of the formulated oil. With the high electron negativity of the chlorine molecule and its stromg affinity for metal surfaces, the chlorinated additive can certainly interfere with the other additives due to competing surface adsorption phenomena or possibly through chemically reacting. Additionally, it has been reported that chlorinated additives can promote oil oxidation.

The use of a good Motor oil with the proper API and SAE ratings for your vehicle will get you down the road for a very long time!

Valvoline Premium Blue Classic is still listed on Valvoline's web site. It's CI4+ (contains zinc) and should be available at NAPA. It's recommended by Cummins - that's all you need to know. It's only available in 5 gal. pails, so just order a hand pump from Northern Tool. I picked up a couple pails at my Cummins distributor last year when they were on sale. I would never add any after market additives to any oil. You never know if the two are compatible.

I agree completely with the "no additives required" posts above.

Dodge and Cummins have always said no additive is required or recommended.

If someone really has an uncontrollable urge to buy oil additives perhaps they can use it in a lawn mower.
