This test was with 25377 miles on oil.
I have been looseing a small amount of coolant somewhere, but iv'e looked very hard and cannot find any trace of a leak.


The oxidation / nitration numbers seems rather high for the 25000 mile drain interval. Copper of 100+ ppm if it repeats could indicate that you have a definite problem in your engine, either bushing related or the cooling system. Think hard, you have not performed any type of gasket or fitting replacement that might have had copper in it? An oil line fitting or copper antiseize, etc... .

Recommend that you take another sample (immediately) and verify that the numbers repeat and it was a valid reading.

I still think you are seeing early signs of oil cooler leak. Some of the readings seems to support water/coolant leak but other don't.
Oxidation = one of syptoms coolant leak
coolant/water leak = one of syptoms reduced effectiveness of additives.
As I recall from chemistry class Magnesium is not to fond of water and something is using it up.
Magnesium= dispersant/detergent oil additive or wear metal in steel alloy.

I can't think of anything that i have replaced that could have anything to do with this.
The only thing i can think of is i am useing an extended drain antifreeze(no silicate), but i heard the other day that this could cause some problems with gaskets deteriorating in older engins(mild acid).
If it might be the oil cooler, is there anyway to tell without pulling it?

I must set the record straight here in regards to the "Amsoil recommended oil drain intervals". The following is applicable to the Series 3000 Heavy Duty Diesel 5W-30 oil as well as the Heavy Duty Diesel/Marine 15W-40 engine oil.
"In heavy Duty and Turbocharged Diesel Engines"... ..... "Up to 2 times or LONGER with OIL ANALYSIS or 6 Months" In other words, if Stick is using oil analysis, as he is doing, he is certainly complying with the Companies recommendations. I hardly think that a Company such as Amsoil Inc. would put out this kind of information, then not stand behind what they recommend and still be in business for nearly three decades, do YOU?

Someone mite suggest a pressure test but as illflem stated in a post(archives), oil has the higher pressure and will leak into oil cooler contaminating
So I would look for oil( small amount) in coolant.
Your slight use of coolant mite be the heater core.
I think checking oil cooler would be best removed from engine. You should be able to test it the same way I check for leaks on heater cores. Remove, cork or rag wrapped (pushed in by an object) on one open end and in the other end stick (pardon the expression) hose into opening if there are hole present the water/coolant will be squirting out after short time.

*sigh* Re-read this thread and tell me where I said anything about drain intervals, besides for XL-7500 series oil and extending drains being considered neglect and abuse by the manufacturer. They determine what neglect and abuse is, not AMSoil. My comment was on the FILTER change interval, not oil. Stick is going nearly 2x as far as AMSoil says to go with the full-flow filters. They specifically say 7000 miles for diesel engines, Stick has been going 12,000. I appreciate you trying to set the facts straight, but it seems we were on different frequencies in this case.
