In planning on switching to Amsoil and starting analysis at my next change. After reading another post here, I see many do not use BS.

So who do we use? Why? And how does this process work anyways?

There are several places to do it. Some truck stops have places to send it in. Catapillar dealers have a lab to send it to. If your planning on running AMsoil, the easiest is to use Oil analysers. They do the samples for 14. 00.

I see where they test for TBN, I'm impressed. I couldn't find anything on soot quantities though. Maybe I just couldn't find it. Did you find out how much they charge after the free ones?
Bob

Bob, not sure. I posted about the free deal about two months ago, many folks were interested, some must have found out by now. I know they want our Cummins business and know a lot about Cummins specs, even though the sign up makes it sound like they are geared towards industrial users. Someone even posted that a rep from the company was going to speak at a local TDR chapter meeting in FL. I forgot to draw a sample for them on my last oil change, but will next time. Can't beat the intro price, even if you use them just for a comparison with your regular lab.

I just had a good experience with Oil Analyzers. I sent tham a sample from an outboard motor that was contaminated with water. They sent me a fax and a phone message informing me of the problem 3 days after I mailed the sample. A tech even called back to make sure I got the messages and had taken the motor out of service. Now that is good customer service! They also do TBN analysis, unlike Blackstone Labs. I'm going to use OA for all my samples from now on.

(NOT AFFILIATED WITH OIL ANALZERS, INC OR AMSOIL)

i was in my friendly local amsoil store in san carlos saturday getting an oil sampling port for my dual remote and picked up a sampling bottle from him (and some oil). has anyone tried amsoil's testing service? do you like it?

Thanks.

I have found some info on the web about Oil analysers, and oil analysis. Talked about sampling, the tests, reading results, and lots of good stuff.

Oil Analysers are the kits from amsoil, correct?

Only question remaining is about starting a baseline. Should I wait until my first synthetic sample? Should I send in a dino sample to atleast get wear metal and contamination info? Should I wait xK miles after the swap to amsoil?

Slybones.
First, what is the milage?
I would send a sample to get a baseline and be able to tell what is happening with your oil and Amsoil. I think you need to know where you start from. Out of 4 analysis I have sent in, every 7500 miles, the only increase I see at all is iron and that is only a few points. You will like the Amsoil. A very good product.

About 67,000 miles right now.

- At next change send in a sample of my existing oil ( Delo 400 ).
- First amsoil sample ?? 7500mi or sooner.

Oh Yeah. What a good way to sample if you do not have a sample valve? I assume these will come when I get around to the bypass kit install?

Slybones -- Oil Analyzers is the outfit that works though Amsoil.

I would suggest that you sample your Delo when you do the change and then take your first sample of Amsiol when you reach the same number of miles you had on the Delo. That will give you a baseline comparison between for oils at equivalent mileage. Then sample before each filter change the way Amsoil suggests (7000 mile intervals).

It would be interesting to know how your wear metal numbers compare for both oils at equivalent mileage. Delo 400 iso-syn is really good conventional oil. Over the first couple of thousand miles Delo might show protection equivalent to the synthetic. This information would address questions posted by other members on the Amsoil threads.

A good plan, and I will post the data. All though it will be months before I get results.
