Oil Analysis - First run on Amsoil

I got my oil analysis numbers back. This was the first run on synthetic oil. I'm using Amsoil 15W40. The first number is my engine, the second number is universal averages.

Comments: We found no diesel fuel, moisture or coolant in the oil and air and oil filtration were doing remarkably well while this oil was in use. We have no problems to report for your engine at 49,284 miles.

Not only did my fuel mileage go up since I went to Amsoil, but my wife is prettier #ad
and the coffee is better in the morning #ad

John, I don't know how many miles you ran your oil but I just sampled my Amsoil 15W40 at 9000 miles, Iron count was 28ppm and everything else was excellent. 30K on truck. Not bad for lots of short trips around town in the winter (though it is relatively mild here). Ran 2 filters during the 9K miles, one Baldwin and now a Stratapore. I will change oil at 20,000 miles with another filter change before then (3 filters per 20K).

The run on this oil was 4125 miles, with two good hard runs dragging the trailer thrown into the mix. My everyday driving is a bit of stop and go, and speeds between 35-60 mph, 13 miles one way to work. I changed the filter (stratapore) and added 1 quart of makeup oil. I'm going to use the Amsoil oil filter at the next interval. Blackstone Labs did the analysis and I've heard the price went up. I didn't receive my bill yet, but last time was $16. 00

I think Amsoil makes another viscosity synthetic for Diesel? The 5W-something...
Does anyone have a comparison on the numbers
from an oil sample under similiar conditons?

Just Curious, I am considering Amsoil Synthetic sometime soon.

Here's a link to my numbers running 5w-30.

Unfortunately, you cannot do a direct comparison of John's numbers to mine.

Things to keep in mind:
1. My interval was 2 1/2 times longer than Johns.
2. I didn't tow, John did.
3. No make up oil or filter change during the interval. I think John mentioned he changed filters once.

Lastly, In speaking to a few Diesel heads... since I seldom tow... They felt my 98. 5' was still finishing its break-in period. . I'll have to wait until the next run to compare numbers.
