Question on oil and oil analysis. I have been doing this every oil change (primarily to monitor fuel in oil). I started November 2009 and always use Valvoline Blue HD, dealer installed. Starting with February 2012 the titanium level went from 0 to 24-25, the implication is that an oil additive was being used. I am not putting it and the dealer isnt charging me (we know they dont do anything for free). I had assumed that they slipped me a mickey (didnt given me Valvoline blue) but everyone swears it is valvoline (and all the part numbers check out in the invoicing) and it has not come down with another oil change. Is there anything in the engine that would give the titanium signal? Nothing else is showing any issues.

thanks all

Oil manufacturers do make revisions to their products. Now whether or not that would trigger a part number change, I don't know.

Blackstone suggested oil additive. I am not paying for it so either the dealer is giving it for free, Valvoline changed or something is wearing in the engine. Questions are out to Valvoline and Cummins.

Does everything else look the same on all the samples? If yes, then it is the same oil. I doubt the titanium came from the engine, so that leaves an additive or the formulation changed.
