Got my first Analysis back and they flagged calcium and magnesium as 'abnormal'. can someone tell me what is normal? The oil is Amsoil and was taken at 50k with 10k on the oil. Magnesium is at 144 and Calcium is at 1981. Looking around here i am seeing peeps with alot higher on a shorter interval. Iron is the only other flag at 43 but they say that is not bad and everything else is normal. Just dont know what to think here.

Calcium and Magnesium are both dispersent/detergent additives. Lab error could be a at play with those numbers. Iron at 43 is a little high with your amsoil bypass. Service use and time on engine will explain your FE wear.

If you could attach the rest of the report it would make it easier to see the whole story.

Did you change the oil? I just sent in a sample of Amsoil at 10k as well, but I am still running the same oil. I run one year on oil, 16-20k oci, but I have plenty of makeup oil running the frantz tp bypass filter.

What was your aluminum at? Also which amsoil?

My dad has gotten two real bad reports on the last two samples, 10 and 15K on his oil... . The UOA place thinks he is loosing a ring. He had high iron, alum, lead, chromium, magnesium, and calcium.

AS mentioned above, one needs to know which oil you are running. Your Calcium is actually "low" if your using the 15W-40 HHD & M oil.

The Magnesium on my last analysis with over 65,000 on the oil was 35.

Calcium was 4166, using the 15W-40 HHD & Marine and the Amsoil by-pass system.

I am running Amsoil 5W40 Premium CJ4 Oil. No I did not change the oil when i took the sample. I was placed under the impression that the analysis company gives their recommendations on when to test again, change filters, and change oil.

I currently can not have access to the report. I have not received a report in the mail. the only way i have been able to check it was online and now, for some reason, i cant even do that. This has not been a very good first experience for me

Finally I was able to get to the results on the web site. Here they are

I wouldn't run the CJ-4 stuff unless you have a 6. 7L, which you don't according to your sig. I run the Amsoil HDD & Marine 15W-40 with an EAO-80 filter, and have loved it.

Your report looks decent enough across the board for that year engine with 10K on the oil, if it was on an UN-bypassed engine - but would expect wear numbers to be a bit lower WITH a decent bypass...

Amsoil bypass filters are popular, and easy to maintain - but I've never been impressed with their filtering ability, as compared with others on the market. You just can't have it both ways - longer change intervals and excellent filtration just don't go together well...

YMMV ;)

I chose to use the premium api cj4 oil because of the 5w40 weight. I personally prefer to run the thinner oil due to the winters that the truck goes through. if you guys think i would be better off with the 15w40 weight then i would have no problem switching to it next time i do a change. this was just my thought when i chose which oil i was going to use. i am currently tunning full flow a 110 filter on the bypass and with the factory full flow.
