Bombing question

Had my '97 12 valve tuned up at local professional diesel service group (44 lbs. boost) and after about 500 miles while towing a trailer it blew about a gallon of oil into the cooling system. Dodge dealer replaced oil cooler and it happened again, next replaced head gasket and and again while trailering the same thing happened. Dealer put in new short block and original head went back on. After about 750 miles regular driving (about 150 miles with trailer) engine began leaking coolant around head gasket just above the block heater. Added stop leak to get me home (about 150 miles) watched temp guage and checked coolant every 20 miles and added a total of about 1 1/2 gallons. Temp never went over 190 degrees. About the last five miles it started pushing oil out gasket as well. Boost has never exceeded 30 lbs since new short block. This truck is used but never abused. Mechanic says stock head gasket can't stand the boost which I know from this website is way off. Anyone have any ideas? Dealer says head checked out before reassembly. Should I go for a Marine head gasket this time? Help, this is becoming a nightmare!

Did they have the head decked? Someone should have an answer. It sounds like you still have a head problem. Hope you figure it out.

The mechanic ***** up & he's trying to weasel out by using the boost for an excuse. Could be a couple of things that point the problem to him. If I were you I'd be lookin for a different mechanic

What was wrong with your other block?

Bob

who did the work?

I would make sure to get your truck to a Cummins distributor location and get them to check it out before you find even more trouble. I hope you are not taking it to Chrysler, they don't know there *** from a hole in the ground. If you need help finding one go to www.cummins.com and they will point you in the right direction. I have worked for Cummins for six years, and you would not believe how many times people could have saved hundreds, if not thousands of $ if they would just come to us first. NOBODY KNOWS YOUR ENGINE LIKE WE DO! Good luck... .....

I think Piers has copper head gaskets coming out soon. I hear they are susposed to be for hight boost trucks.
