Oil at vacuum pump port?

Not a lot of info here but it might help.

Yes I have had the same problem. . And yes it was the check valve on the side of the vaccum pump that had to be replaced along with the vaccum line ends that the oil messed up. I also had to replace the cruise control diaphram and the heater door diaphram. Both are easy to replace. . I got the replacement parts from www.moparsforless.com. They are alot cheaper than the local dealers and are great guys to work with.

The 95 & 96 model year trucks get a warranty extension. Unlimited mileage or 7 year N/C repair on the vacuum problem.

They claim the 97 check valve was redesigned and is not covered under the safety recall.

RHARVEY, does the check valve come out of the pump when the vacuum line fitting is unscrewed? I put an inline check valve on mine for the time being. Hopefully it will prevent any more problems. Oil claimed my transfer case switch and made the cruise control difficult to engage. Oh well, it was a good reason to "manualize" the front end.

I have a 97 and the palastic check valve disentergrated. When this happens it lets the units being serviced suck oil back up in the vaccum lines when the engine is shut down and this causes problems.

Last year I noticed that the vacuum line from the pump was half collapsed, so when I took it off to replace it I discovered that oil had degraded the rubber vacuum line. I did a little research and found the recall on the vacuum pump check valve, but the dealer said it didn't apply to my truck. My truck is one month away from the build dates of the trucks with bad valves. (My vacuum pump has the larger outlet nut which indicates the redesigned check valve. ) Screwed again!

I then called the DC 800 number and was told that it wasn't their problem. I'm thinking of filing a complaint with the NTSB but haven't got arount to it yet.

bholcomb: What did you use for a check valve and where did you get it?

I have a 1997 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins engine. I was having problems with the vacuum that controls the ventilation controls. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective check valve at the vacuum pump. They said that the check valve was letting oil leak into the vacuum line which caused a clog in the line. The vacuum pump is driven with a shaft from the power steering pump and has a seal in it which should prevent engine oil from getting through into the pump. Is it normal for this seal to let a small amount of oil leak past it? Has anyone else experienced a similar
problem?

I bought an 1/4" NPT air check valve from Enco 1-800-873-3626. The part number is
505-3030 and cost $12 and some change. I used two barbed fittings, and a 90 deg. elbow to install it. I just put it on a couple of weeks ago, so I don't know if is helping yet. Actually I think an unloader valve would be a better choice, but I was already ordering from this place.

There was quite a bit of oil in my system. When I pulled the exhaust brake hose (under the truck) oil poured out.

Is there a way to put an aftermarket check valve in the line to catch the oil when the one in the pump goes bad ? to keep from damageing the other parts.
