My truck has 32K on it, and the Oil blow by container in the front of the engine is dripping, is this normal?... . just curious how often do you have to service it.

It probably should be serviced at every oil change. If you don't, it becomes very messy! It is not a nice job removing and cleaning. I guess it is an attempt to not have dripping on the driveways and roadways.

Best thing with that you can do is add hose to it and extend it down or just extend it back to the transfer case. I got tired of cleaning all the oil off of everything. It had a lot built up on my fan blades but no more.

I bought a aluminum fuel bottle like you would use for backpacking. I drilled some vent holes along the top third, and added a transmission drain valve to the bottom. The rubber line from the truck fits perfectly in the neck of the bottle, and now during oil changes I just have to loosen the valve with a funnel underneath...

Guys,, My Dad was on a job with a couple hotshotters and welders,, there must have been about 10 4wd Chassis Cab Dodge Cummins Diesel on location

There was one guy who had his blow by bottle just steaming a mist out of the bottle,, My Dad said it was a milkyish steam coming out of the bottle, and the owner said it has done that

since it was a few months old,,, the truck was still close to new when my Dad saw it,, I had been wondering about this as my truck does not smoke from the bottle,, but it does leak oil.

Is it common/ OK for the bottle to smoke while the engine is under no load at idle, on a warm day ?

Thanks,

I have 118,000 on my 99 AND I WAS VERY upset regarding oil on my driveway. I finally got a metal bottle, which came with fuel conditioner in it, and drilled several holes in the top for air and then drilled one big ol hole for a piece of wire to go through it, the tube, and the can, and then I extended my breather tube down about 1 foot.

It works!

When to clean bottle.

Every 15k. Seems to me that this is such a cheezy setup for a modern diesel engine. Anyone else feel the same?

Diesel Boy, I think you hit the nail on the head. You pay several thousand extra for the best diesel engine and they put a pill bottle in a bad location that has to be emptied so you don't leak all over the driveway and spray oil all over the bottom of your engine. I wonder what they did with the 03's?
