I changed my oil tonight and I think I have overfilled it just a bit according to the dipstick (thats what I get for doing it in a hurry  ) So I took it for a test drive and after warming up and checking for leaks I made a few good runs to help tune in the Water/Meth a bit. While adjusting the VC I noticed the smell of new oil and saw that it appeared oil was coming from the tube just above the front differential.

Oil is a little above the full line, and everything is running good. Is this something to worry about or will it just purge itself until the level is correct.

Thanks in advance.

Who's the dipstick? JK, high oil level can cause low oil pressure, and I don't think its good for the engine. When you say a little above the full line, a quart? Its two quarts between the high and low mark= 1/2 gallon. If it was me, and you're not more than a 1/2 quart or so, I wouldn't worry about it. I imagine it will keep spitting oil til it gets down to the correct fill. BUT next time, pay more attention to how much you put in, since this isn't something you do very often, twice a year or so, do it right the first time. 11 quarts in the pan, 1 quart in the filter. = 12qts= 3 gallons. When I do an oil change, I usually let the old oil drain for a good period of time. This way when you add 11 qts to the crankcase, you won't be left with 1 or 2 qts of old oil in it to put you above the full mark. Also once you get down to your last gallon jug, add a little bit, then check the oil level, keep doing this til you get close to full mark. You can always add that last quart or two later. Sorry if I insulted your intelligence on this.

If Its Too Full And Your Worried Pull The Oil Fillter Off And Por It Out And Put It Back On This Will Take About A Qt Away From The Dip Stick

I change mine every month or so... I always pour 12qts. my truck has lots of blowby... I'm in the process of routing my draft tube to the downpipe. just have to weld the stub on and connect it.

I drained some out this morning first thing. I dont smell it anymore and my pressure is good so I guess all is well. I dont think I got all the old out, so when I put in my 12 qts I was over.

You didnt insult my intelligence Bill, I shouldnt have been in such a rush and I also had a lot on my mind.

No problem Ivan. I liked 41jay's idea of simply removing the oil filter and draining it, get rid of the extra quart. I got an idea, we should just trade trucks, I'll give you back your 91 for that 96 hehehe:D...
