Has anybody relocated their breather bottle to just below the windshield washer tank? I was looking to move mine there,or mabe over to the brace that runs from the frame to the left side of the bumper.

After looking at the mess on the front of the engine and backside of the fan, I decided the bottle has to be moved. I would rather not move it all the way to the rear of the cab. Just want to get it away from the backside of the fan and keep the hose as short as I can.

Anybody tried it there? Is it 3/4" heater hose needed to make the move?

Thanks

Mark

Mark...

If you do a search on breather bottle you'll find lots of options/solutions. I just took the bottle off and ran a 3/4" hose straight down. Simple and no mess.

I did just that and mounted it to the outside of the frame below the washer bottle. Do a search and you'll find pictures of what some did. I do not have and oil on the front of the motor now nor does it blow where it's located at now. Works great. Be creative.

Thanks for the info.

If I don't use the bottle will I have a few drops of oil on my garage floor or doesn't it drip?

Mark

Mark,

Mine did drip some oil without the bottle. Made a decent mess in the garage over a 2 week period.

I relocated the bottle down in front of the axle. Works fine now.

i got a mini k&n breather...

i'll let you know how it works. if i ever get around to putting it on.

I put a K&N type breather on mine and it worked for a while, but there is just too much oil in the breather air and after a while I had a big mess. I finally mounted a home made aluminum breather tank back on my frame near the gas tank and installed a petcock in it to drain it once in a while. Works great.

I think I am going to try mounting the bottle on the frame below the washer tank. Looks like there is plenty of room and it won't take much hose to get to it.

I do get a little oil in the bottle so I would rather keep it than have the oil on the garage floor.

Thanks for all of the help.

OK. I'm going to relocate my bottle. So I need 3/4" heater hose and some kind of coupling. Is the 90 degree plumbing fitting you get at Lowes or Home Depot what every one is using? Or is it a fitting you can get at auto parts house?

90* fitting can found at your better hardware stores. HD or Lowe's might have them, but wouldn't bet on it. This also applies for brass fittting too.

Got mine moved yesterday. After chaseing around for the parts it was a pretty simple job to do. Fit's in real nice on the frame to bumper brace. Once I had everything measured and put together I think about a half hour to actually move the bottle.

Do you guys think there would be a market for a kit to do this job?

I think I could supply a bracket, the hose, clamps and elbow for propably $20-25, hoses measured, bracket drilled and ready to install. You would need to reuse the one squeeze clamp off of the stock breather hose and your oil bottle.

I was thinking alot of people don't like to have to run all over town to buy the pieces and a relocation kit might be a good idea.

Of course there will always be people who prefer to do it themselves.

Any input?

Mark,

The TDR magazine issue ?? had a kit for sale in it I think around $40-$50 for the kit. Came with a new bottle with a drain fitting and NO VENT HOLES. Some members have put cheese cloth or other fabrics around these holes to catch any remaining blow-by. Crazy Horse is thinking that this will cause an over pressurization which won't happen as the cap and hoses are not a tight seal so pressure cannot build up.

Another tip would be to not put anything over a 45 degree angle in your hoses or you will create a flat spot for gunk to accumulate. Keep it going downwards.

The kit that pcarlson is talking about is no longer available due to possible problems from not being installed properly. I put one on my dually a couple of years ago and it worked well on that truck. It was a well designed cure for the problem.

pcarlson,

I wasn't refering to a restriction being caused by cheese cloth or any other cloth covering. I was refering to coving the vent holes on the bottle with what ever you use to suspend the bottle with. Minimally you need at least as much airflow with what ever you do as the hose itself will provide. This time around on the new truck I found it necessary to drill a couple of extra holes in the bottle for proper venting because the hose clamp I used to hang the bottle partially blocked 2 of the vent holes.

Crazy Horse, what did you use to attach your bottle/hose clamp to the frame? I moved mine to the frame below the washer bottle and the only way I could figure out to attach it was to drill a small hose thru the hose clamp and use a toggle bolt to pass thru that hole to clamp inside an existing hole in the frame. Seems to work OK, just wondering how others did it.

I mounted mine to the inside of the plastic wheel well liner right infront of the tire on the drivers side of the truck. That way when you come across the top of the frame with the hose, it's a straight shot into the bottle with another 90 and a short piece of hose down into the bottle. To mount the bottle I used a 2"- 3" piece of strap steel, 2 Avex 3/16" rivets with backup flat washers. This allows you to route the hose clamp behind the strap steel and around the bottle to securely hold the bottle in place. Click on "photo 1" and "photo 2" in my earlier post.

I made a L bracket out of strap iron and bolted it to the bumper brace with a 1/4" bolt. The bottle sits on the bracket and I used a hose clamp to hold it in place. Fits real nice and the hose is almost a straight shot down into the bottle from alongside the washer tank.
