Oil Bypass

I am wondering what the differences between all the Oil Bypass systems are. I DO NOT want to know that i should run a certain type because someone says its the best. I am looking for info so i can make my own decision.

The main difference between the different bypass oil filter systems is the filter media. i run the oilguard system and change the filter every 10K. when i do, i take an oil sample and it comes back good for continued use. it all depends on what you are looking for in a bypass system. some are easier to service than others. the amsoil system is probably the easiest to service. the frantz system may be the messiest system to service, but people have had extremely good results using it. Gulf coast filters is another system out there. Regardless, any system is better than no system at all. the best way to do it is to talk to someone from each company to get their input.

The best ones for sub-micron filtering are probably the ones that use toilet paper as filtering media (Motorguard and Franz) but they need to be changed more often and are messier.



I'm running an Amsoil setup now.



Anything is better than nothing, that's for sure.....

I would consider RACOR 802 LFS. International industrial commercial filter company. Ask your local fleet managers what they use and why?, they deal in 100's of vehicles. That is how I made my choice.

I took the time to go to all the sites and check out their technical information and installation information. Got the prices for their bypass systems and also prices for their filters. I chose the Amsoil BMK-11 for my truck because it was easy to install, easy to find a mounting site because of it's size, and as far as the filtering material it was in the ballpark to meet my needs as good as anyone elses would. I also think the toilet paper medium is good, but I did not want to deal with the timeframe the media supported nor did I want to deal with the mess in the change. I live out in the boonies and getting to places that sell filters is a pain, I like the ordering ability via the internet and the delivery is timely. Gets the job done too.

IIRC, the Racor filter is supplied by OilGuard... FWIW.



And most fleet vehicles use some sort of spin on bypass like the Baldwin B164 of Fleetguard LF777/LF778... mainly for ease of use.

I think the biggest difference is the media type. research and find out what you like. Most of the bypass systems are made of high quality materials. I know that my AMSOIL BMK-11 I can use other filters. I do this in between oil annalysis to see for myself which one does the best. I think the most important decision once you have decided which brand to go with is to make sure it does not drop your oil pressure to much. That is what brought me to the BMK-11 for my 2004. 5. Can you please tell us what other filters fit the Amsoil head??



I'd like to know because I researched it for over a year and never did find a single element that would fit the BMK-11 AND filter as well as the EaBP filter.

I run an AMSOIL bypass system as well, the BMK-15 kit on my '02. The toilet paper filters didn't excite me because you have to change the roll of TP a lot more often, to the tune of every 3k miles. But they do filter well if you choose the correct "filter. "

I run the Amsoil and it fits great under my front after market bumper. I replaced the factory hoses with wire braided high psi units for some added protection. My last 21K mile oil analysis came back clean.

I am currently at 17k (changed oil in December) on the same oil change. My current OA from Blackstone says that my oil is reading same wear as if I drove half that distance. They also say to drive 5k more and resample.



I use Oilguard(Racor) with fleetguard stratapore full flowand Valvoline extreme blue.

These are my results and yours may vary but for me I am very happy with my oilguard.

A stock dodge filter will fit in a pinch, but serves no use. I would really like to know a supply of non-Amsoil filters rated as well or better than the Eabps...

I do not use them, but I think Donaldson filters have a large range of sizes and filter capabilities.

Oil Filters

Have used my Frantz now for 300k. It does the job according to my analysis sheets (about 30 of them). New filter about once a week gets a little tiresome but so do the miles. I am presently looking for an even cleaner option. FS2500 perhaps or a spinner but I want good solid info before making a change . To replace or add as a second unit would be a question needing consideration. Soot levels are very acceptable but still high enough to cause oil to be black but still translucent on the palm smear test. If you buy the filters from the company they are the right size and an easy fit thus a little faster. By changing only first thing in the morning and using a plastic bag straight from the canister (subway is good) keeps the mess to an absolute minimum. Engine now at 521k and still sounds good.
