Was thinking of looking for new oil pan (mine has a wack on the side lower pan. Reading oil fill post that mentioned 11qts as fill amount in Dodge Cummins. The shop manual I have says "oil capacity of standard engine (5. 9) 6cyl 15 us qts. (total system 17. 3 qts). Takes at least 14 qts to get to full on mine. Do the Dodge Cummins have a shallow pan ? Mine is in a front engine Motorhome. Would the pan be that different in the Dodge? Is it the cooler size? Dipstick?

Thanks any info.

My trucks take about 13 qts to bring them to the top of the safe level. This includes the filter capacity. However, I would get the CPL and engine serial number from your engine and compare part numbers from the different style engines. The reason being is FL might have wanted a different size/shape oil pan than what Dodge used. Just a thought.

Yes, the pans can be different for different applications.

On my marine Cummins I have a 16 qt capacity (15 + 1 for the filter).

My truck takes 12 to top it off after an oil + fiilter change.
