A while back I was reading about an oil centerfuge system for our trucks.



This system would copy the systems used on Big Rigs... and would insure only the cleanest of oil for the 'ole cummins.



It sounded like a MUST HAVE... .



I had gotten in contact with a company that made them. . and I was told they were interested in designing a "Kit" for the Ram!



(Especiallly after I told them about the Loyal Ram Owners on the TDR!!!)



I've lost all my info. . and I would like to persue this again. .

Does any one have any knowledge of this type of system??

The last one speaks about "Glacier" and they're long time purifier makers particularly for the European market. I've used them on marine engines and they certainly work. Not very suitable for short run engines. Purification is best done at high temperatures and high speeds

The salesman I spoke with insisted that their centrifuge oil filter was intended for 'larger applications,' even in spite of the fact that the Cummins engine in a Dodge is listed in their 'applications' chart. I couldn't even get a price... .



Maybe someone else will have better luck calling them... .

Only if they had some sort of mount that would fit in our already "Space Challenged Under Hood Cmpartments" like maybe on the frame rail a little further rearward and with some long hoses w/draincock. ;)

I struck out with them too. They list products for our truck but only seem to be interested in fleet sales. Maybe someone could generate some interest with a group purchase.

Hey guys, back to the top. In todays mail I got the propaganda sheets and price lists on the Spinner II and the Cleanable Screen. They also list some adapters and mounts, haven't had a chance to look real close at it yet. Price on the centrifuge is $422. 40. Looks like we're on our own for hoses though. Maybe a group purchase would net us a better price.

I might get a Spinner......

I was tooling around on Spinner's website today and browsed through their news/press releases and found a place by the name of BusStuf which is a large distributer of their products (about 50% of Spinners' sales). The link:

I called the western sales rep, Ed Krueger, of Busstuf and told him what I wanted to do with the filter (put it in a Dodge/Cummins). He said, "great. " "We sell a lot of these filters for ISBs. " He also told me the price (I forgot, but it's something around $450). He's mailing me some more information...



Spinner makes several different types of filters. As far as I can tell, there is the Spinner II centrifugal bypass oil filter which filters down to 1/10th of a micron. There is also a Spinner II CS (cleanable screen), a full flow, "spin on" filter which filters down to only 40 microns by using a woven stainless steel mesh filter screen. See for yourselves:

I'm looking at the bypass filter, and I'll update this thread as I learn more (and/or buy the filter)...
 
The Spinner II centrifugal filters we use on our fleet need a source of compressed air to operate correctly. Perhaps the manufacturer can design a model with with a smaller housing negating the need for this. I wouldn't want one powered by an electric motor.



BTW, The air pressure they operate with is 100 to 120 PSI.
 
I've seen a model (sorry I don't know who makes it) on a Wartsilla marine diesel that was powered by oil pressure. It had two little oil jets on the bottom that propelled it around. Great little unit, easy to disassemble and clean. If we could find a smaller version for our trucks that might be the way to go.
 
More on the Spinner II - sells a model that uses oil pressure and is $250

Today I spoke with Ed Kroeger, Western Sales Rep for Bustuff. He suggested using the Spinner II Model 25, which operates (spins) using oil pressure (rather than compressed air or electricity to spin the centrifuge). He says Land Rover uses this filter in ALL their diesel powered 4x4s. The Spinner II spec'd for the Cummins requires compressed air. The model 25 is cheaper than the Cummins spec'd Spinner ($250 v. $400 something).





There isn't a mounting bracket available (small problem), but he will send me the Land Rover Install instructions and a description of the Model 25, so I can decide if I wanna give it a try... ...
 
That looks perfect. That's the style I've worked with, I just didn't know they made one that small.

Lets see... dropping the oil pan requires dropping the transmission... might be time to BOMB the clutch!

I was wondering if the oil return could be routed into the block where the turbo return is plumbed? Seems like a good place for one mounted like on Fritzs' page rather than removing the pan.

or return the oil via the oil fill cap or the valve cover like lots of guys do that use the Amsoil bypass. I wouldn't want to drop the oil pan either.



I'm wondering if the Spinner is a gravity return? Maybe thats why they want the return line down?

This looks like a great idea. If the oil pan has to be dropped for the return I am definitley not interested.



I wonder why not the turbo return line?



If I am reading correctly this is a cleanable element? No buying $25 filters. I really like that idea :D



Does anybody have more info in this?
