Cooker,

The element or rotor can definitely be cleaned. The return to source or sump must be unrestricted though. You might be able to find a way of dumping into the sump low down but the drain should definitely be lower that the unit and not or restricting in any way. I think it has to be a gravity fall to the sump. I don't remember where the turbo drain drops back to the sump.

There's a bit of an explanation at www.dieselproducts.com/spinner/sp_works.html

If I've made a mistake in the above address just use a search engine to find "dieselproducts.com". They are a distributor in the UK but the info is there.

Where these aren't perhaps so useful is when a machine is doing short run type stuff spending time with cold oil. Centrifugal separation results are proportional to temperature, and speed of the rotor. If yours is a highway hauler they would probably do well for you. They like continous run. Hot oil machines are really their domain.

On ships we try to heat oil to (195-205F) be for sending to the purifier for good separation results

I am using the turbo drain tube to return the oil from my Oilguard bypass filter. When I installed my Walker Airsep they sent me a modified turbo drain line insert (the part that slips into the block). This modified tube had a Tee in it that I used for my bypass filter install. I specifically asked they guy at Walker Airsep if they would sell the modified drain tube seperately and I was told "yes" (I forget the price, but it was definately worth not having to drop the oil pan).

I am definately interested in installing a Spinner II or something similiar. My oil is much cleaner now (7,000 miles on Delo 400) than it would have been without the bypass filter, but I want to get oil changes reduced to once a year by removing the smaller particles (I like clear oil!). Installation of the Spinner II might require removing the Oilguard filter since the pressure drop across it might not allow adequate pressure/flow for the Spinner II to operate (I think their web page said the Model 25 would operate with as little as 25 psi).

Hey this sounds cool. This is just like the purifiers we had in the Navy. The Sharples LOP spun at 10K rpm, and the Alpha LeVal spun at 7. 5K (had a larger diameter). Worked much better than filters!

Hmmmm time to design a little goodie to run off the crank!
