I dont want to sound harsh, BUT dialy driving 6 miles to work is a gross missapplication of the vehicle. Any of the diesel trucks are really ment to work hard at towing, this is where they shine. I have seen many of the 6. 7s that tow HARD and none of them have had short oil change intervals. Being a CPA and doing the math on this I would think that you would find a little Toyota that would get 35mpg and only need 3 quarts of engine oil every 4000 miles...

I got the package from Blackstone to send in an oil sample a while ago, but haven't used it yet.
Can the oil sample go thru the US mail ?

No it's not harsh, and I understand why you would think that soley based on the original post. I can't help where I live in relation to where I work, though I could take the long scenic route around the Island to get there... I bought this truck with the forethought of future needs. So, in essence I bought the chicken before the egg. In aobut 4 months I will be relocating, towing my wifes vehicle, and household goods, and buying a 32ft camper to use frquently on the weekends. My truck will soon get the correct application for which I bought it. I also do have a Hyundai Elantra that gets 45. 5 mpg hwy, but my wife has recently gone back to work and now drives it. If she has a day off I drive the Elantra instead of the truck...

If I didn't tow a 5th wheel I would never on a Diesel Ram truck, they were never made for constant stop and go driving,

Weigh it and put the correct poatage on it and pit it in a drop box. Don't take it inside the post office to send. I wrapped black electrical tape around the lid to make sure it stayed sealed, no problems.

I did not imply that there was any sensor, just making a point that all these things are considered in the software protocol that was developed by the engineers for oil change intervals.

My oil change reminder keeps coming on around 2400 mile mark. I drive about 65 miles a day a mix of back roads and highway. I find that it goes into regen cycle after about an hour of running time and lasting anywhere from 10 min to 30 min. Thought these newer trucks were going to be beter than the older ones..... Now kicking myself for not waiting the 6 months for a 2013... . The new release says 15,000 mile oil change intervals... . and better MPG... .

I want the deletes. I just can't afford it at the moment. I think there should be a recall on the 2012's and update them to run like th 13's will. That is, IF they work as well as advertised.

Yes you can... More likely than not, when the post office clerk sees the container, they usually have a panic attack because you want to send a hazardous material through the mail. I have always put the container in a small box for mailing and it goes much smoother.

I don't think there'll be a recall on anything, but I see someone coming up with a retrofit kit in a couple years. Deleates are pretty pricey for people who don't run all that many miles, it'd take years to cover the cost by fuel savings. Same goes for a conversion, but if done right, that could possibly still work to pass emissions in places where it's required. Just a thought...
