In a "couple minutes" the majority of the oil would be pumped out of the engine. That pipe plug is directly on top of the filter opening. When my engine is cold the idle pressure at that fitting is about 75psi. I like my oil sample method better.

Didn’t you notice the part where the end of the poly tube remains in the oil fill hole til you spend two seconds filling the sample bottle?

Fumoto valve you are getting whatever has been setting on the bottom of the pan.

Actually no, I missed that part. I still like my method better. If anything is sitting in the bottom of the oil pan I have bigger things to worry about.

IMHO the best way to do a sample is this. On top of the oil filter mount there is a 1/8" pipe plug. Remove that and insert a brass fitting with a barbed end and slip a 3' pc of poly tubing over the barbed end and place other end into the oil fill hole. Start the engine and let it run for a couple minutes to be sure nothing will contaminate the sample. Now pull hose out of oil fill hole and insert into collection bottle. WaLa the perfect way to take a sample!

^^^ Don't see the logic of that! Directions to do a sample when changing oil is to remove the plug (engine hot) and allow oil to flow and catch sample mid stream. This allows any contaminants on the bottom of oil pan to flow out.

My way gives filtered oil. Not much better way to do so. Oh and I don't make a mess.

The main reason I installed a finger touch drain is to keep from having to remove & install the oil filter plug. I certainly don't want to be removing and reinstalling my oil pressure sender repeatedly. I took a sample today. A drain pan under the drain, let about a cup flow out, filled the bottle and closed the valve. Works for me.

I received the results of my oil analysis. Oil had 13,517 miles on it, mostly towing. It was new oil last Nov. Contaminant were silicon 9 ppm, sodium 5, potassium 1. Iron 29, copper 9 which is more than likely residue left after an oil cooler replacement. Testing let me know that the oil cooler was leeching copper into the oil. Then the number was 293 with only 16, 467 miles on the oil. So I changed it and the oil and filter. Viscosity 13.1 and base a healthy 5.89. I replaced the filter along with a qt of new oil. Due to some circumstances beyond my control I'm not putting the miles on it I normally do. It might take a year to put another 15k on it.
