I used to change every 3k miles and sampled but after the testing company said my oil was just as new I started to extend it. I went out in 1000 mile increments and tested until now I change at 7500 miles.

My last change was at 5900 miles as it was a trip from McAllen, Tx up through northeastern Indiana and on to Anchorage, Alaska all pulling a 14k lb. 5th whl. The testing company said my oil was perfect without any contamination.

What an engine... ... ... ... ... .....

No need to test at that few of mile....

Testing wtih that few of miles will be watching for some abnormal problem, but you will not gain anything from the oil as to weather it is failing, dropping out of weight, etc.

I about ready to dump my 8th 24,000 mile oil change interval. No bypass, change the filter every 6K, and I have pulled a sample every 6K. I have not had a sample with 24K miles come back requiring changing. Lots of hard pullng miles, winter cold start and stop/ idling.

Schaeffers 15w40 at 13000 miles with a sample.

You need more options on your poll, the factory recommends 7500 miles on a 24v and 14000 on the 3rd gens.

Rotella 15-40 every 6000, sample every other change with blackstone labs. I used to change every 5000, lab said could go longer, went 7500 once, but found results not as good, no difference in wear between 5000 and 6000 so I stuck with 6000

are you running synthetic oil? unless you are i really dont see much need to sample. i run delo400 and change every 4k. was going 3k but found out that was to often. most say 4k is too often so its perfect for me.

In the towing season, I prefer to change oil every 5000 miles or so, and perhaps 7000 miles in the off-season. Generally, I would probably sample oil every other oil change, or once a year...

I'd disagree there. Thanks to my sampling I found a major problem with my air intake. Silicon jumped way high, changed intake systems and silicon right back to normal with following samples. Not mentioning any brands, but I run a BHAF now.

I use Blackstone Labs and through a dialog with them I change at 12,000 miles. I use Napa Gold filters and Valvoline Premium Blue oil. I make a trip from Washington to Florida each year. There are 145,000 miles on the truck which I bought new.

I'm wondering how long people are going between oil changes and do you or have you ever sampled your oil?

Of course I use a High Quality Synthetic Oil, along with By-Pass filtering, and I also do oil analysis every 10,000 miles. Oil in my current truck has 31,500 miles on now, (40,000 on odometer) with the last analysis (12-2004) stateing the oil was "Suitable For Continued Use". Filters have been changed 2 times.

To the guys that are making more horsepower then stock:

Because we are burning more diesel and making more soot (smoke) and because we create more boost and pull more air through the air filter don't you guys see a need for better air and oil filtration as well as oil analysis?

That is the reason I run synthetics, bypass and aFe Progaurd 7 with aFe intake... I feel that since I am making more HP I should keep a closer eye on things and give the engine the highest possible level of protection. I rarely see people here who are making more horsepower ever state that as a potential reason for synthetics, bypass, better air filters and oil analysis.

What do the big HP guys do?? I know my oil will "soot up" much quicker now with bigger injectors.

Thoughts?

How do you like the 1's and did it help mpg.

Amsoil 15-40 change at 75000 or when analysis recommends it. Fortyfour thousand on current batch. Many filters inbetween. Full flow every 8k and bypass at 25k. The truck has 108k.

I have 2. 5's and since I have a heavy foot the milage has never been good. I have not seen a difference going from the stock sticks to the 2. 5's.

If you want to participate in the poll, is ends tomorrow. Thanks to all who participated, those who had feedback, I am appreciative. I'm gonna sample my next change and by all accounts, probably extend my changing interval. Hope this was informative to everyone.

Sample every 6000, change oil filter and add to fill line. Change oil at 12K now. No bypass. All samples are coming in with little change.
