guy's changed oil Sunday and hit the back of alternator and now I have no charging at all, I have a code of 1682 need help it's 5:30 a. m. on Monday and I'm on my way to work, thanks Don Barr

Been there, done that

You probably fried the 140 Amp fuse located in the fuse box under the hood. Get one from the dealer, probably about 8 bucks and you should be good to go.

ain't there a TSB or Recall where they put a cover on the end of that nut on the back of the Alt?

I heard about something down that line, but I could not find it on the TSB website.

Same thing happened to me, I was changing my oil and touch the back of the Alternator with the filter wrench, Got done and drove it and the GEN light came on, It was not charging, I checked the fuse and it was blown. Went to dodge and paid 6. 00 for a new one and everything is fixed!!

Good luck. :--)

Thanks for everyone's imput, it was the 140 amp fuse so while I was at the dealer to get the fuse I also got the rubber boot for the back of the alternator. Now can anybody tell me how to clear the code or will it clear it self Thanks again Don

That one should go away after a few cycles, maybe 10? If not, stop by an Autozone, most of them will check and clear codes free. :)
