I am very frustrated so hopefully somebody knows the answer. I have a 2007 3500 duallie. . truck was serviced at 7800 miles by dealer. I bought the truck and changed the oil again at 9400 and again at 12,400. . I now have 14,300 and get a change oil on the over head. I never knew about resetting this since it has never come on. Reading my latest mag just received, it says not to ignore this warning as it is not based on mileage. I have a Jucie Edge and almost always drive through a Regen and use the truck mainly on the highway when I use it... any comments are most welcomed. . I have not had any codes or issues with the truck but don't want to have to change oil every few thousand miles... . thank you... . Steve

Power adders will shorten the oil change interval... ... ... . live with more frequent svc or go back to stock

Thanks Bob... . I have the Edge on stock no power increase setting. . bought it for the turbo timer, guages, and regen alert... this is rediculous to have to change 12gts and filter in 2,000 miles... .

I'm confused, was the oil change light on each time it was serviced, or is your statement "never have seen it come on" correct?

The light should be reset at every oil change, even if it is not on. Oil change light can come on in as little as 1500 miles depending on duty cycle, and ambient temps.

I was hoping you would jump on sag2... . I bought the truck and changed the oil when I noticed it was some two qts over full. . that was at 9400 miles... didn't see the change oil alert nor did I turn it off per the instructions on this web site. . changed oil at 12,400 with Shell Rotunda 15-40 and Chryler filter... now at 14,300 the alert comes on for the first time... reading in my latest tdr mag it says that the alert is not a mileage alert and that one should change the oil. It has been extremely hot in Nor Cal the last month and I use this to tow my boat and my pontoon boat that weights 7,000. Other than that a few short hops or it stays parked... I do have the Edge installed at Zero power setting as I use it for the trans temp, regen alert etc... how are these guys going 7500 miles and beyond on a oil change... I follow through the regens about 90% of the time. As we all know, it comes on sometimes where we must shut the motor down without going through the complete cycle... appreicate your comments...

Personnally, I'd ignore the alert and go 5,000 miles on your current oil. Then change the oil and reset the alert. See how it goes from there.

Overfull oil is a sign of fuel dilution. If your still seeing the oil level creep up, I'd not go past 5,000 miles interval. My 2007 had that problem.

If I'm reading your posts correctly you've changed the oil twice but didn't reset the oil change counter. If you haven't reset the counter I don't think your ECM knows you've performed the oil changes so it's calculations are in error.

I forget about the oil change monitor feature and don't remember to reset it either but need to make a note in my service log book to remind myself to do it after each oil change.

Thanks HBarlow but according to the latest TDR mag we just got, it says that the reminder needs to be adheared to. Yes I have changed the oil twice since the purchase at 9400 miles. . just bought oil tonight and will buy a filter tomorrow... I will reset and see what happens. . I hope it is not the Edge as I am not running any power boost... I really like the Edge and all is does in one unit. . The turbo timer is great as is the guages and alerts... Getting ready to spend more money on oil to do the transmission and rear end... 15,000 mile changes are unheard of except for Chrysler products... if you use your truck alot and maintain it by the book, you need deep pockets even if you do the messy services yourself... Do like the truck though!!!!

I have been taking oil samples on mine to try to extend out the sevice interval. So far I am at 5K on the changes and most everything is fine, less than 4% fuel dilution, still with in limits and the oil is holding up fine. Blackstone recommended to go 6K and look at it again, I will probably stay at 5K for the time being. I agree that the gear box changes are a little tight though, I am running 20K on them for now. The reminder goes off around 3,500 to 4,000 any more, I heard that the dealer may be able to disable the warning for oil changes, any one else heard of that? I have not talked to the dealer about it yet.

I have the same alert message, and I had the oil changed about 1,500 miles ago. I have reset it throught th navigation screen, but it keeps popping up. Any ideas????

I'm still not clear. Have you or a Dodge dealer tech reset the oil change indicator each time the oil and filter were changed? If the ECM doesn't know about each of the earlier oil changes it is unable to accurately monitor and advise you when to change again. The ECM is not capable of performing oil samples, it makes educated guesses about when a change is required based on the last reset and your service cycle.

I checked my oil and now it is way over the full mark. I just had the truck in for some recalls. Should I remove some?

We can't answer your question with any useful information without knowing what truck you own. You'll get better assistance here if you fill in your signature or at least tell us in your post what Dodge Ram you own.

I'm pretty sure you're not asking about a HP Mustang(?) here.

I think the safest thing to do is assume you have fuel contamination and drain the crankcase. Better to possibly waste $100 on an unneeded oil and filter change than potentially waste a $15k or $20k engine.

If you are so inclined you could have an oil analysis done on a sample when you drain it and let one of the labs determine if you had fuel contamination or just insufficient drain during the last oil change. I've read/been told the ISB6. 7 drains slowly and 15 minutes should be allowed for complete drain. But some of the early 6. 7s did experience some fuel contamination.

Has your truck been back to the dealership for software reflash? The Cummins-trained dealer techs who are TDR members and post here are convinced that the latest software reflashes will correct some of the minor problems early '07. 5 trucks have experienced.

I have reset using the gas pedal, so we will see what happens.

If you are resetting without changing your oil you may be getting a false sense of security. The ecm calculated the fuel dilution based on use... ... ... . if the warning shows change it ;)
