One quick question my owners manual says "Change oil every 15,000 miles or 6 months. Why 6 months on oil change I only have around 5000 miles on this oil,and my "Oil Life" looks good at 68 percent.I am coming up on 6 months through, guess I don't do much driving.

Why 6 months on oil change
Because FCA / RAM is the warranty administrator....and that's their rules / sandbox.

Is your current oil still "good"??? I'd say so....without any question.

Can FCA / RAM give you grief in the event of an oil related failure under warranty when you cannot document oil changes based on their warranty requirements spelled out in the warranty booklet??? Yes.

The two Chrysler reps at MayMadness said it was a good idea to sample your oil if going past 6 mo. They said Blackstone met their requirements. They also said the very well could deny warranty if you had not followed their drain intervals.

I have about 5381 miles on the oil change, and it was changed on 1/17/2016.I wondering if it is diesel fuel in oil issue. In that the Oil Life page can not detect diesel fuel in oil, only using what it monitors to determine "Oil Life" condition.

Based on my experiences, the oil life percentage on a '13 & newer DEF CTD pickup is mostly based on miles driven. The '13 & newer trucks are nothing like their 2007.5 through 2012 predecessors when it comes to fuel dilution.

Thanks guys,I justed wanted to bring this topic up,because I see no reason to change my oil every 6 months.I will never drive the 15,000 miles within the oil interval change that FCA,and Cummins likes to use as a ad for the low service requirements for fleet owners.Like I said before I only have 5381 miles with about 6 months on the current oil change. The first one was free at my dealership. This one is on me,so far through AutoZone with my Zone card membership the cost was 63.56 out the door.Valvoline Preminum Blue,MOPAR MO-285.If is was my old 07-1/2 I would have been on synthetic by now and by now I would have extended my oil changes out to around 9800 miles, allowed by my dealership back then, but they did all oil changes because of the email oil coupon they always would send me which was the cost of the oil at any auto parts store or Wallyworld in the area.As far as the Blackstone supported warrenty after talking with my local service manager he said "don't believe anything you read on the internet and laughed he said that no FCA dealership would just approve any repair based on a Blackstone oil report,he said most likely they would submit it for review to STAR-TECH,before warrenty repairs are covered, and paid for by FCA".Gee every six months at the current cost will run me 190.68 a year in oil changes.Plus I also noted in the service manual under requirement service interval that the front transfer case u-joint needs a shot of grease as well. With the humidity at 78 percent and temps around 94 degrees makes for a good case to just let the dealership do this.............

"As far as the Blackstone supported warranty"

I SAID FCA would acknowledge Blackstone as a reputable company for oil reports if going longer than the 6 mo.

Bottom line if you exceed the 6 mo time be prepared to be your own warranty station.

Cummins12v98,I agree, but he did say he had no problem with customer's changing there own oil.But he said we can match AutoZone with Shell Rotella, and a MO-285.His price was including texas, tax was 78.93 out the door....

The generally accepted reason for the 6 month interval is corrosion or pitting on hard parts. The combustion process + humidity creates an acidic environment in the oil in vehicles that are not used frequently. It's most common in piston aircraft engines. If you think your 6.7 is expensive, you aught to reman a seldom used Lycoming IO540. A good one is 40K
