Go to Geno's and test the oil for 15-20 bucks then you know I went 7500 and it was fine. As for hrs. vs miles most cars I have had over the years with normal driving the average speed is 38 MPH not 60 MPH so the is real safe coverted to hrs. When I change the oil in my rough terrian fork lifts the oil is black the next day with 1 Detroit's and 3 John Deere's. Just get it tested for your driving stlye.

I agree 100% with your statement. However will still stand by my original statement. The average speed on my trucks is about 60 mph. The run almost entirely on the freeway at freeway speeds. The didtance between cities may be greater here in the West. This may not be true if you live in town or a congested area.

Just got my 2004. 5 truck and manual. Oil/filter schedule is 7,500 K for trucks that are towing. The 15000 mile schedule is only for trucks that are NOT towing. Thanks for all the previous information from members of the TDR forum on this topic.

Did anyone else buy the "Diesel Essential Care" oil/lube/filter plan? Quite a savings. For $520 you get 28 cupons that can be used at any Dodge dealer. Each coupon is one oil/filter/lube service.

I bought the Lifetime Oil Change Plan from Lithia and they change my oil EVERY 3000 miles. It cost me $299 and I feel it is well worth it. I wouldn't run any oil in anything I own 15,000 miles!

Regarding acid formation and moisture in oil, I think gassers are much more greatly affected by this than our diesels, especially with how clean they burn, how much less sulfer there is in the fuel, and the fact diesel combustion emits far less water than gasoline. How often have you heard of bearings or cam lobes deteriorating from acid formation on a diesel? I have on gassers but not diesels. Have you noticed how acrid and nasty used gasser oil is compared to what you dump out of your Cummins?



The main moisture perpetrator is cool damp climates, which would do harm eventually if you didn't run it for weeks or months on end, but if you run the engine and bring it to operating condition occasionally that shouldn't be a concern (would just have to change oil more often mileage-wise, like was being discussed).

Geeze, I wish Fleetguard would make a Venturi Combo filter for the B5. 9. It's a spin-on full flow and bypass in one that replaces the regular oil filter. How nice would that be!

Ddog; That do make a diffrence dont it. Hope you get to "stretch the legs" on your truck occasionally. We have on several occasions been in the over 90mph area running with the KWs and Petes in Wyoming or Montana!!

Well, I guess I'll stir the pot a little. I've changed the oil on my 03 four times since it was bought. The first three were during break-in, the first 18,000 miles. I didn't change again until I had 88,000 miles on the truck and only then because of an air box problem that allowed dust in. My oil analysis showed abnormal in silicon, the chemistry showed the oil was good for continued use but I dumped it. The truck now has almost 102,000 miles on it.

My last truck went 416k+ miles with no engine problems at all using extended drain intervals. I know most won't agree with what I do, but it works for me. I run a lot of miles, pulling a big trailer, it's how I make my living. My truck will be 1 yr old on the 14th of Feb.

Just something to think about. I heard a couple of old timers saying "just change your oil every time the seasons change and save your mental energy for something else,like proving this method dose'nt work" It's been about ten years or so and I have'nt found a case that it is way out. Filters are another story though,sometimes ????

I forgot to put in that the full flow filter is changed every 8k and the bypass filter every 24k. Oil analysis is done every 12k.
