oil change

I finally attempted to do my own oil change this weekend. I bought a new heavy duty oil plug from Geno to replace the existing plug. I've read some posts that describe cracking of the original plug.



When I tried to screw on the new heavy duty plug I couldn't get the screw started. It would screw on a little then stop. I was afraid to force it. The old plug obviously screws right on.



Has anyone out there experienced the same thing. Should I just force it on?

If it were mine on the oil drain I would not force it. I think I would put the old one back on if it is still good and get with geno's to check part numbers or see if there is a burr on it or the bottom of the pan. I pulled my oem plug off and got the super plug. The one that has the magnet in it. I kept the oem plug in the door pouch for emergencies.

i just did mine with the new plug from genos and had the same problem i put the new plug in took it a little at a time and back it off. after it was all the way in took it back out put it back in . it worked like the oem . i was affried also. but it works

I deal with this on Cummins products on a regular basis. Metric 22mm and US 1-1/8" are close enough to fit with a <em>little</em> forcing the issue. My suppliers have mixed the two.



Genos's needs to answer this issue, FAST!

Not bashing Geno's or their products, but I too am very happy with my superplug. www.superplug.com



They are $25 and if you mention you are a TDR member you get a $5 discount. (or at least I did)

I bought the heavy duty Geno's plug with the magnet for my 2002. It won't fit - it's too large to even get started.

RustyJC - if you have a 2002 truck, you need a smaller HDOP. We have them in stock - we will replace yours at no charge. Just give the staff a call at 800-755-1715. Dodge changed the oil plug in the 2002 model diesel trucks to a significantly smaller unit (18mm vs 22mm).



Regarding the HDOP question, here is what we've done and the results.



Geno's Garage purchases these units from a small company, Plug-It-Right. We contacted the owner, Dave Irrgang, as soon as we saw this post. He assured us this HDOP was manufactured on a 22mm specification, but went back to the machinsts who actually tool the plug - better safe than sorry. The 22mm specification was verified by the machinist. Then - again better safe than sorry - Doug pulled some plugs from inventory and had the specifications confirmed. It is manufactured on a 22mm specification.



Infrequently, we do receive a plug with a minor burr which can obstruct installation. Any unit that does not fit properly upon installation will be immediatley replaced under warranty.



I trust this will put all of our minds at ease.
