New Truck-What's on it?

Check this Out

When ever I buy , new or used , I change or do all maintainance , so I know how to plan future maint. , the only difference with new is never assume that all the metal chips from manufacture are gone , so I've been as finicky as soon as getting truck [ highest % of getting chips out before damage ] , but you want to run a non detergent oil for break in , so that is where the ? is , many joke about these eng. s not being broke in till 80,000 miles ??? , the point being that you want the new parts to break in , so no special oils [ thats excepting break in oils , non detergent ] Not sure about you choice of oil , may be a good oil for after break in .
So for a answer after the right away , then break in , maybe every 3-5,000 [ you also want to flush out any break in stuff ] till you hit 20,000 , then you have to figure your own long term plan ,
I am using Rottella 15-40wt , have been doing oil analysis , to see condition of eng. - contents of oil & a TBN - condition of oil additives , then change on there recommendations , the last few checks , they say go farther , I'm at 11,000 with a TBN of 9+ , and all contents at normal of below .

Just a point, I wish someone had told me about before I did my first oil change... I don't know, maybe no one else has experienced this. But, the oil filter for my '06 was extremely difficult to take off. Now, I am not a mechanic but had the 'normal' tools to do this but had to use another tool which provided more of a lever arm to get this off. Not sure of your situation, but something to think of as it might take more time than you originally thought. Just my two cents...

Oh yeah great point! The first ever O/C on a new cummins is like a hazing process. It must be a factory thing

"Hey Bob here goes anuddah one ... ... . hey gimmee that 3/4" impact this ones gonna be special for somebody who get this engine"

You will most likely be tortured with getting it off. I remember mine I had twisted the filter , speared it with a screw driver, tore it , broke a ratchet with a belt setup, then finally with a chizel I was able to walk it off bit by bit. What a mess. Ahh and that was 100K ago ... ... god how they grow up :-laf

Going to move this thread to the first owners area BTW.
