I have oil on the bottom side of my oil pan. It's just a couple of drops, but I'm tearing myself up trying to figure out were it's coming from. There's oil on the last couple of bolts on the drivers side of the oil pan, I wiped it off today and only drove about 20 miles today and it seems to be back. It's not the breather because I just installed an AirSep yesterday. I'm going to drive about 100 miles tomorrow to see if any more shows up. I think my oil pan gasket might be leaking because I can't see any oil above the gasket line, it just seems to be around those couple of bolts.

Do you guys have any idea where this might be coming from?

TIA

Oil leaks covered for 5 years or 100,000 miles? Please tell me this is true! Mine leaks at the front of the engine about half up the engine and is always leaving oil in the garage. I've got about 94K on my 99 and would definetely get this checked out. Any details would be appreciated.

I had oil seepage on my oil pan on my 2000. I retorqued the oil pan bolts and its dry now. Put several thousand miles on since. My son has 99 with 11000+ and his oil pan is still dry. Some leak and some don't. I guess it depends on what kind of mood the person is in that puts it together and other things too.

My wife has a 2001. 5 that has 35K on it. I've noticed oil seeping the last couple oil changes. Looks like it may need a new front seal. It sounds like this is not too uncommon.

Jherrlich, I have the EXACT same leak. on my 2000. Started about 10K miles ago. Sprayed it off and keeps coming back. NOT leaking from above (valve cover) I was thinking that it was coming from where the oil dipstick goes into the pan but I am going to tighten the pan bolts a bit and see. I will advise and do the same if you figure it out. Just enough oil to be irritating. .

I found out where my oil was coming from... I found two hairline cracks on the oil pan near two of the bolts. It looks like they where over torqued, but I'm the only one who has worked on my truck. It's pretty strange that could've happend. I think it happened at the factory and they just got worse over time.

FWIW I had a leak at the camshaft position sensor that was causing a mystery leak. I didn't notice it at first as the breather bottle kept the whole front of the engine well-oiled. Once I extended the breather hose down some I began to notice that the drivers side of the oil pan stayed wet. I finally traced it back to the CPS, which lives on the back of the timing houstin below the vp-44 and above the pwr steering/vac pump. It's a PITA to get to, but a $. 37 o-ring fixed it up.

I know you found your leak, but just wanted to share in case someone else runs into this.

Later,

Mike

Mine has 28k miles and I just had the crankshaft oil seal replaced for the very same reason.

I wonder if Cummins is buying their oil seals from China.
