i have a 97 two wheel drive dually with 245000 miles. the turbo went bad so i bought another one(used) my original the bearings were shot. the used one i got feels pretty tight. i started it up(has been sitting for couple months) lots of white smoke figured from sitting so long. smoked really bad. give it fuel even worse. my exhaust clamp was loose so there was little gap. oil was spraying out. why is there so much oil coming out? thanks for any help.

also something has happened to the alternator. thought something was wrong with the old one wrong. put a auto zone on(big mistake) worked for a week then quit. put five different ones on no dont work at all. alternator gauge dont work neither does the rpm gauge. sometimes they would work then they wouldnt. stumped

Whooooeee..... Oil was spraying out of where exactly? The clamp area? Have you got oil in your exhaust pipe? Check the tail pipe. Course the cat and muffler could trap a lot but if you've got "oily" smoke, thats a bad sign. You could have impending seal failure if not already. Go to http://www.htturbo.com. Send them your turbo and have it fixed. Fast turn-around, good price, good work. If the turbo seal is indeed bad (sounds like it is) you could get engine oil into the air intake (compressor side). If that happens your motor could runaway. And if that happens your most likely - DONE. Go to NAPA and get an alternator while your out shopping... ... . P. S. : don't take the Diesel... . Good Luck... .

As for the alternator and tach, those are signs of a bad/dirty crank position sensor. Have not experienced it yet myself but that is what I have read here numerous times.

Welcome to the TDR. :)

Did you check that the drain on the turbo was clear? Sounds plugged, and you blew out the seal on the turbine side.

For the alt, you may be loosing the signal from the crank postion sensor. The voltage is controlled by the PCM. The PCM needs a RPM signal to operate. Also check the 120amp fuse in the PDC (power distributing center). Could be blow. Did you happen to hit a terminal on the alternator with a wrench? Done that before.

thanks for info. i have another question. the used turbo i put on had the hose coming from the canister(?) going back into turbo. my old one went from the canister to it looks like maybe something to do with injectors. right beside the throttle cable. which one should i plug up?
