What would be considered normal or reasonable oil consumption on a motor with 10,000 miles on it. I don't remember ever having to add a drop of oil to any of my past CTDs but this one just lost a quart in the last 5000 miles.

I sure wouldn't worry about a single quart in 5K miles, especially if heavy pulling was involved - with a 3 gallon sump, that's like 1/3 quart in a typical gas engine...

My '91 would sometimes be down almost a quart in heavy usage in a couple thousand miles - the 02 hasn't used any in similar usage so far...

My 07 5. 9 doesn't use a DROP of oil and I have been pulling quite hard with it on the weekends. 4-500 Mile Round trips in the desert heat and never a drop gone...

I've never had to add any oil between changes since my truck was new. I normally change every 5000 miles or slightly less.

mine started to use oil when switched to AMSOIL synthetic, I changed it back to blue last time and hasn't used any since.

Mine varies, and without reason...

One time it will use a little bit, then next OCI it won't use a drop...

Interesting thread... mine used to use a little when I was running Rotella dino juice but it stopped when I switched to Delo... ?! 172K on the clock.

Haha. A little off topic, but if you guys want to talk about oil useage, listen to this:

The Chief Flight Instructor at one of my local airports used to own a TBM Avenger. This guy's in his 70's. Anyway, he said that on that plane your range is limited not by how much fuel it can carry, but by how much oil. You would literally run out of oil before you ran out of fuel... .

My 06 dipstick is not correct. If you put in the required 12 quarts it shows one quart low. I once added the extra quart and it quickly disappeared. It does not use enought to add any on a 15,000 mile change.

On edit! :) LOLOL I just completed another 600 mile Ropund Trip and for the first time ever my oil level was OFF THE FULL. I have done quite a bit more towing on thie OCI and a lot in the hot desert pulling my big trailer. Looks Like in 3500 miles I am down MAYBE half a quart but more like a quarter of a quart...

A quart in 2000 miles is nothing to sweat. 5000 miles and only a quart low, you've got a good one.

Mine is all over the map as well. I've gone 10K with only adding oil when I changed the filter (5K). Other times it'll be down 2 quarts at 4-5K.
