Oil consumption...

This is the first time in 258,800 plus miles that I have noticed oil use. It used almost a quart in 3300-miles #@$%!. . I have no leaks that I can observe, (except the quarter size drop from the vent tube, I keep a large drip pan under to keep an eye on 'er). Is this normal? I have done the usual driving, maybe a little more gridlock, two, three times a week over the past three months. Please chim in :-{} Not high mileage on my rig.

if i were you id pull off your down pipe an take a close look at the exhaust housing of the turbo, see if its wet. sounds like a possible leaking seal. thats one place i can think of that would leak oil an show no signs besides little more exhaust smoke.

I don't have a single 5. 9 here in the bus fleet that does not consume engine oil. And I always check them after setting a number of hours in the shop on a level floor.



Most of the engines are under 100,000 miles.

Thats pretty normal, I wouldn't worry at all.

340K and about 1/2 a liter between 5k oilchange intervals... . sound pretty normal to me... . my cummins guru friend says its sooo normal and not too worry...
