Anyone here ever have the oil cooler in their engine fail? what was the symptom? Oil in the coolant, coolant in the oil? My brothers truck was dumping coolant/oil mixture in his driveway from the radiator overflow after he drove it:eek:. I suspect the headgasket may have blown but also remember reading somewere that this could be caused by a oil cooler or oil cooler gasket leak.

. might be easier to check that first than pull the lines /injectors and head. any tell tale signs to look for before diagnosing. . I'll get more info from him. .

Thanks for any info. .

Yes they can fail .
A compression test will tell if its a HG .
Are you seeing coolant in crank case , that is an issue , coolant eats away at babit in bearings .

No coolant in the crankcase at all (lucky!), just over 1 gallon of oil left in there!

gonna pull the oil cooler first and check it for leaks.....

My bet is the cooler! If you have no oil and what's left has no A/F... ... ;) Usually the gasket will let fluid go both ways. And it won't pump oil out that fast.

most likely the cooler,it comes out easy, its behind the oilfilter on side of block, changed one last year helped me get my truck for a steal, fixed it for under $250

Yep,

that was it!. . He's rolling again. . the cooler was leaking somewere in the middle. Took a bit of pressure to reveal its leak. .

Thanks for all the advice!!! :D
