Oil Cooler question...

I currently have antifreeze in my oil and I'm trying to isolate the cause. First thought was to remove the oil cooler and pressure test it before I concede it's the head gasket. Hopefully I'm correct in my thinking... My question is that I removed the oil cooler cover and gasket but the actual core seems like it doesn't want to come out. Are there any "hidden" bolts that need to be removed, or do I just need to gently separate it from the engine block? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

When i bought my 92 it had a bad oil cooler so its not that uncomon the dealer were i bought it fixed and caught the problem , my guess if it was a blown head gasket you should be getting bubbles in the radaitor when its running .

It is probably just stuck, the cooler element has a gasket between it and the block.



Normally the cooler will not transfer antifreeze to the oil. Oil pressure is higher then water pressure so if they go bad it is usually oil in the water.



Water in the oil can be the head, head gasket or cracked block.

If I recall correctly, there are no internal bolts to hold it on, just those on the outside plate. It's probably just the gasket sticking it to the block. Try tapping it gently with a rubber mallet or brass hammer and see if it will loosen on one side so you can tilt it out.
