I turned my oil pan sump around to the front. With the dipstick in the back of the block is now useless. There are three locations for the dipstick tube in the block. The other two are plugged. I can't tell if these plugs are screwed in or pressed in. Will be using the front hole for the tube. Anybody know how to get the plug out? I want to remove the plug and put it in the rear hole, so drilling it is out. If I can avoid it!

Did you know the pans are symetrical? The oil pickup tube has to be changed but turning the pan around is a no brainer.

ANybody do this before.

Will hit the front straight axle on the first bump!

Thanks Joe!

Does it knock in or out to remove? I'm assuming I can reuse it in the rear hole.

I'm hoping to do this tomorrow and put the engine in the chassis for the last time.

Will be making smoke soon!:D Almost done.

It's been the little things like this, that are killing me... .....

OK, Sorry to waste everyones time.

I had "the bulb" go off over my head again.

I called Cummins Technical service and asked them. 1-800-343-7357 or 1-800-DIESELS

It has a lip on the top. Looks like a upside down hat. Drives out from below or he said I could pry it out with a screwdriver by the flange.

SOOOOoooooo Little known trivia: File under! "Things you may not know and probably never need DEPT. " unless your like me and changing everything around! Boy I feel better now.

It may be a bit hard to pry out from the top I had to pound mine out from the bottom when I rebuilt the 6BTA you could drill a small hole in it and then use a slide hammer dent puller to remove it. Did you make the pickup tube?

W-Cummins, It won't be that big of a deal right now. The motor is still on the stand. I'll just zip the pan off again and knock it out from below with a drift punch. I haven't even put any sealer on the pan gasket yet in anticipation of this. In fact, I have one of those cheap Harbor Freight center punch sets I can use to get the exact size and drive out the dip stick tube while I'm at it. I just didn't want to start hammering if it had threads. And didn't want to drive it out the wrong way. Like I said, "It's these little things that are driving me crazy".

I bought a front pickup tube from Southern Plains Cummins. Pricey, but at least I know it won't come apart some where down the road. There were several guys here who are needing a new rear tube so I can unload the old one easy enough. Since this is a new motor I'm working with. I've started it on the stand a couple of times is all.

If the rain will hold off today, I'll get the engine mounted in the Chassis today. Since, it's already wired and plummed, it'll only take a little while to hook up everything up. The radiator and intercoler mounts are all I have left to fabricate. They came from a 2001 Catipillar powered Ford. So they're bigger than the old radiator.

Here's a ;link to my Photo Albumn if anybody's interested.

Well gotta run, I'm burning daylight!

I told you that they are really happy $$$ about them... . I was the one that wanted it:) remember I had the one you needed but it's burried in the moving truck... . So how much do you want for your old one? BTW it will only fit in the big pans like We have not the Dodge tuck pan.

William.....

Dipstick got moved without a hitch.

Knocked out the little itsy bitsy plug from the bottom. My first thought was,"It looks like a baby freeze plug". Reinstalled it in the rear hole and dabbed some silicone on it for good measure. The dipstick will have to be recalibrated but hey, that's not rocket science!;)

Anyway, the motor is in place. Slid in like it was made for it. Actually I've R&R that engine 4 times making pieces to fit. So I'm getting rather adept at this.

The exhaust downtube is going to need some stretching, again. Didn't add enough, about 7 more inches should get it below the frame.

Even the driveshaft fit.

Should be able to fire it up sooonnn. It's all plumbing from here.

Another conversion almost complete!

Thanks for playing!
