Just wondered if anyone has heard any kind of explanation or theory on why gas is up 26 cents and more, even though oil is back under $37.

it's called GREED,,,big oil companies love to stick to us in the $%^ whenever they need to prop up profits,,some CEO somewhere probably needs to pay for a couple of divorces,,and the odd call girl on the side,,,you know,,kinda like goverment officials,,senetors,,,etc. .

It's all about corporate greenbacks afterall how are they supposed to pay for all the kickbacks to politicians. .

Elections are over,,,regular citizens are back to being worthless,,your opinion does'nt mater for $^&*,,,unless you can stroke a sizable check to your favorite elected official. . :)

Theres no resistance to moving the price higher... . they like it. Lots of resistance to push the prices lower... they don't likeee so they "resist" as much as they can. Falling prices always follow a slower path . $35. 57 @ 10:57 a. m. eastern 1/15/09. I think we'll see $25/barrel in 2-3 months and then the next "disaster" should jack the price back where the producers want em.

We may or may not see oil in the $25 range in the next few months. But, what people tend to forget is that this whole thing started with the oil companies gouging at the pump. The oil producers saw that, and started gouging. The speculators saw that, and manipulated prices which really caused a skyrocket in prices. That caused the beginning of the world economic problems. High oil and gas prices, coupled with the slowing world wide economy, caused a huge reduction in demand for oil, which brought oil back closed to where it really should be.

Now that oil is down in the 30's and maybe heading lower, we're back to where the oil companies are going to gouge us some more (oil keeps going down, but gas is up at least 27 cents from just a few weeks ago.

I dont claim to be an economic wizard, but I think there is a lot of truth to my above venting.

well put... the oil and gas companies will ALWAYS find ways to gouge the customer,,it's how they make those stupid huge profits,,with no goverment watchdog to try and keep them in check,,they can keep ripping off the consumer as much as they want,,some day we may have a goverment with BALLS,,and look into there price fixing and profitering parctices. .

Or god forbid a new technology emerges that greatly reduce the need for oil... then there product might become exticnt,,just like where there product began,,,BUT,,then it will probably just be another industry's turn as gouging us. .

Goverment,,oil and gas companies and GREED go hand in hand,,and that will probably never change. .

ONE THING that does HURT the oil companies,,is a reduction in fuel demands,,so everytime you can save a gallon of gas,,YOU're hurting they're bottom line. . and THAT,,they can't do anything about. .

Enough said,,

P. S... try byuing gas in Canada,,see how you like it,,we're about 40% higher than the US,,AND,,,we supply most of the stuff we make to the US,,,go figure,,but thats Canadians for you,,complacent to the end,,we take in the #$%^ and dont say or do squat.

Dont think the oil guys cant afford to BUY any new tech that emerges. They have already payed off the auto makers to build gas guzzling giants. They also spend a fortune in ads to make us think we need them, and I really havent seen an improvement in economy, many new US cars are in the 20s. VWs have been in the 30s for decades.

Does Canada have its own refineries?

unfortunately i dont believe we have rafineries. . sucks dont it,,all this oil,,and no way to process it properly,,i think we may have a refinerie or 2,,but thats probably not enough. .

Doesnt bother me though,,i've been making biodiesle for years,,my fuel cost about a buck a gallon or less,,,still sucks for the rest of the people.

Even though oil is only around $35, I noticed, this morning, that gas was up a couple more cents. But, interesting enough, DIESEL was down a nickel. It was $2. 59 a couple of weeks ago, then it got jacked up to $2. 68. This morning it was down to $2. 55 at the local Chevron in my neighborhood. Go figure.

Because they can.

Here in Ca. they say it's because we produce a "unique" blend peculiar to this area. We can't import it from other states, although the refineries admit, they are producing "reg. " gas and fuel for other states. Go figure. With higher prices goes increased revenue. Gas was $1. 94 here at Costco yesterday. Cheapest diesel is $2. 25

I just got diesel @ $2. 48 in Ma. "winter blend" for extra low mileage. CT is even higher than that, whats our excuse?

Diesel for a long time was running 90 cents to a dollar higher than gas here in Tri-Cities. Diesel jumped up about 10 cents a week ago and has been staying there. Per AAA, diesel in Tri Cities is $2. 63 and gas is $1. 73, so the 90-cent spread has not lessened one bit.

I notice AAA says gas went up 20 cents in Seattle in a month, but here in Tri Cities it went up less than a penny. Who knows what's up with that

Yep it's the ole supply and demand, otherwise known of as (if you got the supply you also get to demand. )

It is the old supply and demand trick. Fuel was getting too cheap and OPEC didn't like it, so they slowed down production of crude to create higher demand.

opec. . speculators,,big oil companies,,they're all just a bunch of theiving criminals,,and nobody watches over them,,well,,nobody who's not on the payroll,,

We'll always get #$%^^ by big oil,,no matter what we do,,,but if we can keep dropping the demand,,now that hurts them. . they can onlu cut production down so far,,,by that time,,it should be easy enough to keep the country supplied with OUR OWN oil. .

I dont think its opec (or even the speculators) with oil down in the mid to low $30's. Its our old buddys the oil companies

I did read about it in the newspaper. OPEC want the supply low to drive the prices up. How true are newspapers, who knows!
