Oil Drain Plug Removal

I've had my dealer do the last few oil changes, today I attempted to do one myself.

Not did have much luck, though. I assumed before crawling underneath the truck, that the drain plug had a standard hex head. It doesn't. Does any one know the size and type (Alan Wrench?) of the OEM drain plug?

I will be replacing is with Geno's EZ Drian plug.

It takes a 3/8" square drive like a socket wrench or breaker bar. If you don't use a higher quality one it will sometimes twist the square drive on the wrench before the plug breaks loose.

Just drill some holes in your Geno's EZ drain at about the same spot as OEM. I just installed mine. I check to see if I have them in the right spot when I change the oil and report back here.

When I first got my 2001 truck I ordered a Geno's Drain plug replacing it for the factor one, it will leave about 1 quart of USED OIL IN YOUR OIL PAN AT EACH OIL CHANGE. THE EZ DRAIN PLUG WHEN INSTALLED BLOCKS THE 4 DRAIN SLOTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DRAIN HOLE!!!!!!!! When you take your plug out take a look at the threads there are 4 slots located at the bottom at 12/3/6/9 o'clock. Just use a GOOD 3/8 drive Ratchet works great. GOOD LUCK
