Has anyone used a quick release oil drain plug? A friend of mine suggested one by FUMOTO. www.fumotovalve.com

Would appreciate any comments.

Good suggestion. I've used one on several vehicles. The only negative would be the abount they extend down. The bottom of the hose fitting is about even with the bottom of the front axle, any lower would be a real risk...

I have a fenco, sold by the local cummins dealer. it only protrudes below the pan by one inch. there is a brass cap that screws on to protect it when not in use. there is a fitting with a hose attached, you remove the cap screw in the fitting which opens the valve. workes great.

I've used both types, the fumoto (my favorite) drains a lot faster, may carry more debries out. Throw the fibre washer that comes with the Fumoto away and get a soft copper washer for it. Mine (fiber washer) split after I put it on and I had to dump 11 qts of good oil. It wasn't a major leak, but any leak is too much. If you have to change oil on the ground, get the Fumoto with the hose adaptor, dump right into a jug that way.

I don't like them for two very important reasons: 1) depending on which one you have, they extend up into the oil pan, and thus don't allow all of the oil to drain, and 2) being a resticted flow path when open (as compared to the open hole in the pan when the plug is removed) they don't flow out with as much velocity, so they have less ability to entrain any solids on the bottom of the pan and sweep them out.
