Thanks for the earlier thread. Based on jwilliams3's input, it seems that using one of the two ports for a bypass filter could reduce the oil flow to the turbo. Is this correct?
I disagree with jwilliams on this. The bypass arrangement increases oil system capacity by a quart or 2. Therefore, it doesn't decrease the amount of oil available to any component anywhere in the engine. In my opinion, based on what I know of the oil circulation system in this engine, there is absolutely no harm to your turbo bearings by installing a bypass filter in either port.
I plan to install a bypass filter identical to Amsoilman's in the outer-port (the one farthest from the block). That port will have a cross fitting on it so I can run an oil temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and the bypass filter. But I'm waiting until after my engine breaks in to get the bypass filter (I have a theory about the beneficial effects of small contaminants in the oil system during break-in).
I know for a fact that 2 bypass filters have a flow restriction in the input line to the bypass filter. Puradyn restricts flow to 6 gal an hour of engine running and Amsoil restricts to 2. 5 gallons evert 10 minutes.
