Oil Filter Access for 2015

OK, I am attempting to change the oil + filter on my new truck, and getting the filter out has proved a challenge so far. How is anyone doing this efficiently?
Thanks,
Jeff

I did it through the fender well. I spilt a little bit. Now I see why people drop the filter into a ziplock bag. I don't wanna remove the whole intake to get to filter.

I tried for an hour to force the filter through the fender skirt opening in the fender well, to no avail. At least not without substantially bending the A/C lines or damaging the electronics. The filter just will not fit through, the area is half the size of the filter.
I ended up taking the intake loose from the filter housing and the turbo. I still could not remove it as the EGR hose would not come loose period. I was able to shove the intake housing up and back over the turbo enough to slide the filter out. Oil was everywhere - it ripped holes in the ziplock bag forcing it out around the opening. Oil is everywhere under the side of the engine, and my garage looks like I kicked an oil can.
I really am just stunned at how completely ridiculous the filter change is. I now understand why the dealer wants $200 to change the oil + filter, as it is a 2hr + project. The old truck I could have the oil changed in 15 min.

THIS is what I love about being a TDR member!
Thanks to both SNOKING and BILLUA for the links, good info.
I am getting old and set in my ways - the new truck just doesn't "fit" with me yet. I thought I could get the oil changed in short order this evening - should have planned better. There is a learning curve with this new truck, and it was a bit steep and slippery on this job. Several discoveries were made: The new truck doesn't fit into the garage completely, my floor jack isn't strong enough to lift the front end, there isn't any access from below to the filter, and there is this new CCV thingy that got in my way, etc.
Better planning...next time.

The fact is he had to let the engine cool for a while so the oil level in the filter would lower or he would have had oil all over the place. He also did not show actually threading the filter onto the engine that is not nearly as easy as it would be from the top without anything in the way. I am still going to so as I have described by going in from the top. There is plenty of time to remove the air intake since it does take time for the oil to drain and the filter to drain back. I will time my self next time but I can't imagine it taking me anymore than 15 minutes to gather all the tools needed remove everything and replace everything. Gadgets are cool but this one is not for me.

I am by no means calling you inept or a liar, but I had absolutely zero issues taking filter through fender well. There was nothing in the way. 2015 tradesmen here.

Of course you have no issues......your truck is a G56 and there's no transmission lines in the way. JAlford has an automatic truck. It's been discussed numerous times here and on multiple other boards.

Quint from CF :
From the pictures I have scene with the autos the trans cooler lines run right in front of the filter so makes it a little harder to get to when pulling the filter out so going in from the top makes it easier. Us G56 guys dont have that line so its a little easier to drop and slide it out.

Holy smokes. I thought he said ac lines not transmission lines. I'm sorry man. That makes **** difficult.
He did say A/C lines, but JAlford mis-spoke when he stated that. They're actually automatic transmission cooler lines. The same lines are used on the 68RFE and the AS69RC.

I change my '05 filter from the bottom. Looks like you could do the same on a '13 and up from what I see. To me, this is the easy way as I do not have to take anything extra off or put back. To each their own! :)

Get under a 13 and up and you will see the filter will not go up or down from the bottom. It's either thru the fender well or from above.

I changed my 91.5, '97, '00, '03, '07.5 through the bottom, too.

You obviously have not been under a '13 & newer 3500 or a '14 & newer 2500!!!

Not a matter of "to each their own".....it's either through the fenderwell or remove the intake. Removing the intake is no biggy. Can't be done from the bottom on a '13 & newer 3500 or a '14 & newer 2500!!!

"You obviously have not been under a '13 & newer 3500 or a '14 & newer 2500!!!"

Correct, sir. I was speaking strictly based on the pictures posted in this thread. Pocket book does not allow for even looking right now as looking tends to give me the "fever".

"You best be going to the eye doctor for a new pair of glasses........."

Currently not required, but I am beginning to age a little.

Thanks all!
