I am new to TDR and am all confused about which Fleetguard filter to use on my 1995 3500. I found out that the oil change place I use puts a Fram filter on and I want to get rid of that filter. I have read some conflicting information. Should I be using the Stratopore or the MicroGlass? Please help me out.

Thanks,

Sandmancw

Get that Fram out of there- its a time bomb willing to happen!! I've seen the results up close and personal- it isn't pretty or cheap. We had a discussion on this same subject today with our Local chapter and you can actually use any one of three different Fleetguard filters:

LF 3894 Stratopore

LF 3552 Microglass

LF 3959 Cellulose

Whatever you do, get the Fram out of there!

You can use either the Stratapore or Microglass. The 3894 Stratapore was actually designed for the 24v becasue of it's more robust case design. It will work fine on a 12v though.

The Stratapore is Fleetguard's best filter media and that is the reason I use the 3894 on my 12v.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I had already ordered the LF3552 from Geno's for the '95 and the the LF3894 for the 2001. 5. Then read the article on oil filters in the TDR magazine and got confused. Looks like I can use LF3894 Stratopore filter for both, right? That way I don't have to order two different filters all the time.

Thanks agin,

What about the Fleetguard LF 3349? I have a 1st generation rig and that is what I use. It is a crossover from the old Fram. That's what my truck ran with all of its life. I like to use original equipment as much as possible so I got Fleetguard. Well, is this filter okay or not?

The 3349 is fine. The Microglass or Stratapore filter is better than the regular 3349 cellulose filter, but even Fleetguard's low end filters are still better than almost all the other filters out there, IMO.
