Oil Filter/ Fleet Gaurd, Help?

Ok fellas i changed my oil today(wow was it cold) :{ , and took it for a ride and all seemed fine, so later on this afternoon i went for a little ride and came back parked the truck in the garage and popped the hood, jumped up on the bumper and looked down at the filter and i can see alittle black oil around the edge(down in the lip) of the filter (on the back side of the filter), i know that i got some in there when i filled the filter but i wiped it out before i put it on, maybe some spilled out when i went to put it on but it would be clean oil if that was the case and not black. I put the filter on same as other times and even made sure that the gasket came off with the old filter. What gives fellas any ideas?

Wipe it clean and see if it leaks. Check tightness (I mark my filter with a black sharpie on the lip when I get it hand tight. Then I tighten 1/4 turn more with the strap wrench, then put another mark that matches the mark I have on the housing. That way I can see if the filter ever moves)



As far as the black oil, my oil turns black... . well pretty black by the time I drive to the recycle center and back... . 10 miles. Unless you wipe the bottom of the filter housing dry there is always some residual old oil left, so that might be all it is.



You checked the old gasket and I assume you lubed the new one before installing, so I wouldn't be too worried.

Hit it w/ a little simple green first and then realy clean it off. Take her for a little ride and if you have any more oil then I'd recheck the O-ring.

Just a report here everything looks good! I wiped all the oil i could out and even took the air filter off the turbo to get in there better, went for a good ride and came back and everything is lookin good! IM still gonna keep an eye on it to be safe. Thanks again for all the replys!!
