Hi guys,

Is it OK to use a Fleetguard LF3894 oil filter on the 12V engine? I normally use the LF3552 but the local Cummins parts man said they only use the LF3894 now. I hate not to trust him but I've been given too much bad information over the years by parts men. Thanks in advance.

Geno's website has these part numbers for the 12 valve:

12 valve standard: LF3349

12 valve microglass: LF3552

it has the LF3894 under "24 valve stratapore"

Are you sure your parts man knows you have a 12 valve?

I'm not sure if it's ok or not, just posting what I found. I just got a box of 3349's and I'll be using them for the next 4 changes at least. Someone in the know will post soon, I'm sure of that.

The LF3894 is the best filter. Use it on your 12 valve. I have been using it on my '95 for over 120K miles. The parts guy at Cummins is correct. The parts guy at the local Petebilt shop told me the same thing.

I made sure he knew it was a 12V and he did give me the correct fuel filter for a 95 12V. He just said something about they quit carrying the LF3552 and use the LF3894 on all of the 6BT's now.

3894

been using it (3894) the last couple drains and it does a much better job of keeping the oil clean, longer, so i believe it is a superior filter with the stratapore material in it. i am sure that you could extend the drain period a little longer, because of the better filtering and controlled contaminants isolation.

just my penny's worth.

It is my undersatndng the newer (24V) filters have a thicker can because of the need for higher burst strength. You can use the 24V filters on the 12V's but not the 12V filters on a 24V.

You can also use the new filters made for the 03 - I think it is number 16035. The only difference is the fluted end on the can for better traction for removal. I bet these will supersede the 3894 pretty soon.
